A master cylinder for a vehicle braking system comprises a body (2) with a bore (3) open at the rear end of the body, a reservoir (4), a transverse port (17) in the body opening into the bore (3) and positioned rearwardly of the reservoir, and a passageway defined between the exterior of the body (2) and a sleeve (22) mounted thereon to communicate the transverse port (17) with a chamber (7) of the reservoir. in different disclosed embodiments the sleeve may be integral with the housing of a booster assembled with the master cylinder and an element may be interposed between the sleeve and the master cylinder body and be provided with a tubular extension interconnecting the reservoir with the passageway.

A master cylinder for an hydraulic pressure system has a pressure cylinder (1) on which is mounted a reservoir (11), the cylinder having an open end closed by a cap (3). The cap is positively coupled to the cylinder (1) by a coupling device (26) arranged so that resulting from pressure applied to the interior of the cap (3) is transmitted via said device to the cylinder.

Master cylinder for vehicle braking systems

In a master cylinder of the quick-fill type, communication between the quick-fill chamber (8) and the reservoir (13) is controlled by a valve assembly comprising a pressure responsive valve which opens when the pressure in the quick-fill chamber (8) reaches a predetermined level, and a one-way valve (20, 22) which allows free flow of fluid from the reservoir to the quick-fill chamber. The valve member (20) and seat (15) of the pressure responsive valve have confronting surfaces which define between them, when the valve is closed, a restrictive passage for pressure equalization purposes, and any dirt becoming trapped between the surfaces is washed away by the fluid flow on opening of the valve.

Brake master cylinder

A hose connector has a body having a first portion adapted to receive a flexible hydraulic hose and a second portion adatped for connection to a brake actuator. A bore portion of the second body portion is arranged to provide a space large enough to contain at least a major part of any heated brake fluid returning from the actuator upon brake retraction thereby minimizing the amount of heated fluid reaching the hose.

A vehicle load sensing arrangement comprises an input arrangement to which is applied the force of a road spring and a control valve which may, for example, be a pressure reducing valve, having a movable valve member. A control spring acts in opposition to the road spring and together with a force-reduction arrangement serves to reduce the road spring force so that only a proportion of the road spring force is applied to the valve member the remainder being applied to the sprung part of the vehicle. To reduce the load and size of the control spring, and to thereby reduce the required installation space, the control spring is arranged between the valve member and the force-reduction arrangement and acts against the force transmitted by the force-reduction arrangement, so that the effective force acting on the valve member is the difference between the proportion of the road spring force transmitted by the force-reduction arrangement and the force of the control spring.
