A method for editing media objects in a capture device having a display is provided. The method displays a representation of each media object, where each media object has a plurality of media types associated therewith. The plurality of media types includes at least two of a still image, a sequential image, and a video clip. The method enables selection of a media object to edit and invokes a plurality of edit screens for editing the plurality of media types. In each one of the plurality of edit screens, a representation of the media object's content and items to be applied to the media object are displayed. Each one of the plurality of the edit screens invokes soft keys to ease use and operation of the capture device and facilitate creation of multimedia presentations on the capture device.

Method and apparatus for editing heterogeneous media objects in a digital imaging device

A method and apparatus for editing heterogeneous media objects in a digital imaging device having a display screen, where each one of the media objects has one or more media types associated therewith, such as a still image, a sequential image, video, audio, and text. The method aspect of the present invention begins by displaying a representation of each one of the media objects on the display screen to allow a user to randomly select a particular media object to edit. In response to a user pressing a key to edit a selected media object, one or more specialized edit screens is invoked for editing the media types associated with the selected media object. If the media object includes a still or a sequential image, then an image editing screen is invoked. If the media object includes a video clip, then a video editing screen is invoked. If the media object includes an audio clip, then an audio editing screen is invoked. And if the media object includes a text clip, then a text editing screen is invoked.

A method and apparatus for managing categorized images in a digital camera is provided. In one aspect, a method includes, storing images on a storage media in the digital imaging device, where each image includes at least one tag corresponding to a category for categorizing the images. A category list is generated that includes the categories corresponding to the tags in the images and the category list is stored on the storage media. The category list identifies, for each category, which of the stored images have the tag corresponding to the category. A category within the category list is designated as a default category. The method further includes accessing the image category list in order to display the images, wherein only the identified images of the default category are displayed, thereby speeding access to, and display of, the images.

A method and apparatus for enhancing performance of a high-capacity storage media in a digital imaging device. The method aspect of the present invention includes, storing images on the storage media, where the images include tags for categorizing the images. A category list is generated from the tags in the images and the category list is stored on the storage media. A category within the category list is designated as a default category. The method further includes accessing the image category list in order to display the images, wherein only the images belonging to the default category are displayed, thereby speeding access to, and display of, the images.

The present invention provides a method and system for the creation and use of simple and complex templates. The system includes providing the template where the template contains a plurality of tags, and then applying the template to the image based on the tags. The plurality of tags provide instructions for the application of a plurality of plane files to be applied to the image. The method and system in accordance with the present invention automates the process of applying templates to images which reduces the required amount of user time for the interface. Its use of tags to store the template requires less storage space. The method and system in accordance with the present invention thus saves the user considerable time and effort in applying templates. It also require less processing time over manual template creation methods.

A method for reviewing and navigating among stored images on an image capture unit having a display, wherein each of the stored images is represented by a thumbnail image is disclosed. The method begins by displaying a page of thumbnail images on a display in which when the page is full of thumbnails, the thumbnails are arranged in an N&times;M array. A memory bar is displayed adjacent to the page on the display, wherein the memory bar indicates a position of the displayed page in relation to the other pages of stored images. The user may navigate among the thumbnail images in the displayed page via the up, down, right and left buttons, where a highlight area indicates a location of a currently selected thumbnail. The user may also navigate from the displayed page to other pages via up, down, right and left buttons, wherein the displayed page is replaced with a second page. In response, the memory bar is updated to indicate a position of the second page in relation to the other pages.

A method and system for implementing an efficient alphanumeric text entry interface for a portable digital electronic device. A first entry area and a second entry area are generated for display on the incorporated display screen of a digital electronic device. The first and second areas are configured to display alphanumeric characters. A cursor is generated for selecting from among the various alphanumeric characters displayed in the first area and the second area. The cursor is operable to highlight a currently selected alphanumeric character such that the currently selected alphanumeric character is visible and easily distinguishable to the user. The movement of the cursor is controlled with the four way controller built into the digital electronic device. The four way controller is adapted for easy actuation by the user, wherein its movements are coordinated with the movement of the cursor on the display. The user controls the movement of the cursor among the alphanumeric characters within the first area and second area and controls the movement of the cursor between the first area and second area. A persistent selection highlight is generated for an alphanumeric character previously selected by the cursor, such that as the cursor is moved between the first area and second area, the previously selected alphanumeric character remains visible to the user. The user is able to selectively process the currently selected alphanumeric character or the previously selected alphanumeric character in accordance with the user's actuation of an input control built into the digital electronic device.

Method and system for advanced text editing in a portable digital electronic device using a button interface

A computer program product, which includes a computer usable medium having computer readable code embodied therein for processing data in a compound document. The compound document includes a plurality of embedded object editors for respectively rendering data having different interest types in different compound document content areas. The compound document further includes a plurality of editing controllers embedded in the compound document. The inventive computer program product includes computer readable program code configured to cause a computer to detect whether a selection is made in one of the data. Furthermore, there is included computer readable program code configured to cause the computer to effect the filling out of an auditor data structure with attributes of the selection by the object editor that is associated with the data in which the selection is made. The inventive computer program product also includes computer readable program code configured to cause the computer to communicate the attributes embodied in data fields of the auditor data structure from the above-mentioned object editor to selective interested ones of the editing controllers. In one embodiment, both the above-mentioned object editor and the interested editing controllers register with a data switching system to receive attribute data having an interest represented by the attributes of the aforementioned selection.

Enhanced compound document processing architectures and methods therefor

A compound document in a computer, which includes a first object editor embedded in the compound document for rendering first data in a first data content area of the compound document. The compound document further includes a second object editor embedded in the compound document for rendering second data in a second data content area of the compound document, the first data content area and the second data content area being mutually exclusive. Further, there are embedded a plurality of editing controllers in the compound document for selectively editing attributes of a selection of one of the first and second data. The compound document further includes a data switching system for communicating attribute data between the editing controllers and the first and second object editors, the attribute data representing the attributes of the selection, wherein the data switching system determines which one of the plurality of editing controllers receives the attribute data based on interest registered by each of the plurality of editing controllers with the data switching system.
