A centrifugal blower apparatus includes a scroll-shaped housing with first and second air inlets which open to a blower chamber that is in fluid communication with an air outlet. The blower includes a motor to drive impellers, wherein the motor is secured to a frame coupled within the housing in a manner to substantially enhance aerodynamic performance of the blower.

A cooling system for an electronics chassis includes a plurality of centrifugal blowers arranged to motivate cooling air through the electronics chassis. The centrifugal blowers are arranged in one or more sets, each having blowers oriented with respective inlets in mutual facing relationship. The orientation, positioning, and alignment of the centrifugal blowers facilitates a compact arrangement of the plurality of blowers that achieves increased aerodynamic efficiencies to reduce noise output and energy consumption.

An impeller for a centrifugal fan includes a hub, impeller blades, and struts for supporting the blades in a circumferential array spaced apart from the hub. The number of struts can equal the number of blades, each strut extended from the hub to support two blades while each blade is supported by one strut nearer to its leading edge and another strut nearer to its trailing edge. Another arrangement features two struts per blade, with one of the struts coupled to the hub and a given blade, and the other strut coupled between the given blade and an adjacent blade. The struts are recessed inwardly from the leading and trailing edges to promote smoother air flow. The blades and struts are provided with aerodynamic thickness profiles to further improve air flow.

An axial flow air impeller for automotive radiator fan use and the like comprising a hub carrying a plurality of integrally formed similar circumaxially spaced and generally radially outwardly projecting air moving blades. Each blade has a root end portion integral with the hub and a radially outwardly disposed tip end portion with smoothly curving leading and trailing edges extending therebetween. The leading edge curves substantially forwardly while the trailing edge extends substantially radially to provide for a blade projected width at the tip end portion approximately 40% greater than at the root end portion. The thickness of each blade varies from a maximum at the root end portion to a minimum at the tip end portion with the latter being at least three times the thickness at the blade edge. An integral orifice ring circumscribes the plurality of blades and has a bell mouth at its upstream or downstream end.

An axial flow impeller for low pressure ratio applications in the range 1.03 and below and comprising a hub carrying a plurality of similar circumaxially arranged air moving blades. Each blade has a root portion attached to the hub and a radially outwardly disposed tip portion. The camber of each blade decreases from root to tip with 0.1203 root camber and .023 tip camber for a ratio of 5.23 to 1. Pitch also decreases from root to tip with a root pitch of 46.degree. and a tip pitch of 27.4.degree. for a ratio of 1.68 to 1. Chord increases from root to tip with a 1.528 inch root chord and a 2.59 inch tip chord for a 1.7 to 1 ratio. The blade camber and chord both change gradually at the blade inner and mid portions with a 35% camber decrease in the outermost 20% of blade span, and with substantially all of the chord increase occurring beyond the blade midpoint.
