Medical device systems and methods for operating medical device systems conserve energy by efficiently managing computational demands of the systems. Signals from a subject are processed and analyzed and an estimate of a propensity for a subject to have a neurological event is determined. Based on the results of the analysis and the estimate, further analysis may be performed and the estimate may be refined. Succeeding cycles of signal measurement and analysis are scheduled depending on the results of the analysis and the estimate. The schedule may be varied temporally or with regard to the types and intensities of analyzes performed.

The invention provides a method of monitoring a subject's neurological condition. In some embodiments, the method includes the steps of analyzing a physiological signal (such as an EEG) from a subject to determine if the subject is in a contra-ictal condition; and if the subject is in a contra-ictal condition, providing an indication (e.g., to the subject and/or to a caregiver) that the subject is in the contra-ictal condition, such as by activating a green light or other visible output. Systems and methods for identifying a contra-ictal condition in a subject

A patient advisory device ('PAD') and its methods of use. The PAD may be configured to alert the patient about an estimated brain state of the patient. In preferred embodiments, the PAD is adapted to alert the patient of the patient's brain state, which corresponds to the patient's propensity of transitioning into an ictal brain state, e.g., having a seizure. Based on the specific type of alert, the patient will be made aware whether they are highly unlikely to have a seizure for a given period of time, an elevated propensity of having a seizure, a seizure is occurring or imminent, or the patient's brain state is unknown.

The present invention provides systems and methods for ambulatory, long term monitoring of a physiological signal from a patient. At least a portion of the systems of the present invention may be implanted within the patient in a minimally invasive manner. In preferred embodiments, brain activity signals are sampled from the patient and are transmitted to a handheld patient communication device for further processing.

Minimally invasive system for selecting patient-specific therapy parameters

This invention relates to an external defibrillator whose language of operation can be easily changed when the defibrillator is deployed for use. Defibrillators include, manual defibrillators, automatic or semi-automatic external defibrillators ('AEDs') and defibrillator trainers. In one embodiment, the invention provides a way to change the language in which the defibrillator delivers instructions to a user. Defibrillators of this invention would contain multiple languages in their memory. During the set-up of the defibrillator some or all of the languages could be designated as a language in which a prompt will be offered. Additionally, during set-up, one language will be designated as the default language. Once the defibrillator is deployed for use in an emergency, the operator will indicate a language preference for the defibrillator operating instructions. Once the user has indicated which language the prompts should be in, the defibrillator will then begin instructing the user in the use of the defibrillator in that language. Conversely, if the user fails to make any language preference indication, the defibrillator will begin instructing the user in the use of the defibrillator in the default language. In an alternate embodiment, the defibrillator issues each instruction in multiple languages.
