In an approach for a smart reading assistant that helps users learn to read a new language, a processor detects a language of a digital book opening by a user on a computing device. A processor identifies a user reading capability level for the language of the digital book from a user profile for the user. A processor inputs at least one in context meaning of potential unknown words based on the user reading capability level. A processor detects a user action by the user on the computing device. A processor updates the user reading capability level based on the user action. A processor identifies, using collocation extraction, related words to a word involved in the user action. A processor inputs at least one in context meaning of at least one of the related words.

Smart reading assistant

A method for retrieving a plurality of electronic images that includes obtaining images from a plurality of electronic storage sites. A first set of images containing a main protagonist is selected from the plurality of electronic images. An intent based image selection is performed from the first set of images. The intent based image selection includes tagging the first set of images with word tags identifying content of the images, creating a word cloud from the word tags, plotting the top word tags from the word cloud in a Venn diagram, and extracting images from the overlapping are of the Venn diagram.

Artificial intelligence driven image retrieval

A document feed system is disclosed which comprises a feed wheel (10) mounted on a first rotatable shaft (13), and a retard wheel (11) mounted on a second rotatable shaft (14). The first shaft is driven by a motor and the second shaft is mounted in a bearing fixed in a pivoting arm. A first pulley (17) is fixed on the first shaft and a second pulley (19) is coupled to the second shaft through a slipping clutch (18). A belt (20) passes round the first and second pulleys and also round an idler pulley (21) which is rotatable on a spring loaded shaft (22). The arrangement is such that the belt (20) pulls the first and second shafts towards each other so that a document may be gripped between the feed and retard wheels. If a single document is located in the nip between the feed and retard wheels it will be driven in the direction of the arrow (24). However, if two documents are located side by side in the nip, one document will be driven in the direction of the arrow (24) while the other is retarded relative to that document.

Drag clutch document feeder mechanism

An inductance sensor is intended for determining or controlling the gap between a sealing strip and sector plate in a rotary regenerative air preheater of the rotating-matrix type, the strip being on the matrix and being swept past the non-rotating plate. The sensor has a U-shaped core the legs of which lie in a plane generally corresponding to that containing the sealing strip when nearest to the sensor. The legs have unequal coils on them. Energization of the coils allows information to be derived concerning the gap between the strip and plate which may be recorded, displayed, or directly used to adjust that gap to a desired value by movement of the sector plate.

Inductance sensor

In a tape transport mechanism, a payout reel is supported on a shaft whereabout is wound a helical spring inertia brake fixed at a first end and free at a second end, wound such that rotation of the payout reel in response the drawing therefrom of ribbon tends to cause the helical spring inertia brake to be wound more tightly onto the shaft. A portion of the ribbon passes onto a tension arm. A projection on the tension arm engages the second free end and unwinds the helical spring inertia brake to allow rotation of the shaft opposed by a predetermined amount of torque to maintain tension in the moving ribbon. When the moving ribbon ceases to be drawn from the payout reel, the tension arm moves back for the projection to allow the helical spring inertia brake once more to grip the shaft and bring the payout reel rapidly to a halt. An energy-storing two-diameter helical friction brake is further provided on the shaft to counter-rotate the shaft on cessation of movement of the ribbon to take up any inter-reel slack and to provide ribbon-movement-opposing torque to maintain tension in the ribbon when it is moving.

Self-braking ribbon transport apparatus

The invention is concerned with a textile spinning machine particularly a ring spinning machine, and is directed to the provision of a tension reliever between the delivery rollers and the yarn balloon, which has the effect of producing a tension differential between the yarn forming the balloon, and the yarn travelling from the delivery rollers to the tension reliever. In order to facilitate piecing-up of the yarn after a breakage, the tension reliever has a drive wharf and a capstan device which includes a yarn engaging capstan element, the capstan device permitting threading in a radial direction, and having a snap-in connection with the wharf, so that the capstan device can be completely detached from the drive wharf for a piecing-up operation. The tension reliever itself has a hollow body rotatable about an axis substantially coincident with the path of the yarn and a capstan element in the form of a rod having a yarn engaging section extending close to the axis of rotation and a hook portion at the distal end to prevent the yarn sliding off the yarn engaging section.

Textile spinning machines

In dyeing keratinous fibres, such as wool, by impregnating the fibres with aqueous compositions containing dyes, followed by storage in the moist condition, a higher level of fixation, enabling heavier shades to be obtained with cheaper dyes, can be achieved by raising the temperature of the stored fibres by means of radio frequency heating. The storage temperature is preferably between 40.degree. and 80.degree. C., which usually requires about 0.05 kw hour/kg fibres. Acid, milling, chrome and premetallized dyes can be used, as well as reactive dyes and substantive optical brighteners. The fibres are cuttled into an insulated plastics material cart located between a pair of electrodes in an r.f. chamber. One electrode is fixed and the other is adjustable so that the r.f. load acting on the fibres may be set at a desired value.
