A filter arrangement is provided, as well as methods of assembly and use. Advantageous features, relating to a preferred filter cartridge and a preferred slide arrangement, are provided. A filter cartridge is provided that includes a plurality of projections spaced from one another around a central axis. Also, a liquid filter assembly arrangement is provided that includes a plate arrangement having a central liquid flow channel, the central liquid flow channel including a cartridge positioning projection arrangement therein, comprising at least one projection extending radially toward a central axis.

A liquid filter arrangement is provided, as well as methods of assembly and use. The liquid filter arrangement includes an anti-drain back valve assembly therein. Advantageous features, relating to a preferred filter cartridge and preferred anti-drain back valve arrangement, are provided.

An apparatus for measuring the differential pressure of fluid in filter. The apparatus comprises a housing defining a pressure chamber. A differential pressure gauge divides the pressure chamber into first and second fluid chambers. The differential pressure gauge is arranged to measure a differential pressure between fluid in the first chamber and fluid in the second chamber. The differential pressure gauge has a variable output.

A seal arrangement for fluid filters is provided. The seal arrangement generally concerns compressing a gasket between selected portions of the filter base and filter cartridge. A preferred frusto-conical configuration is provided, to advantage. Methods of assembly and use are described, as well as preferred filter base configurations and preferred filter cartridge configurations.

A filter arrangement for filtering fluid comprises a housing and a valve arrangement. The housing includes an inlet, an outlet, and a draining aperture. The valve arrangement is constructed and arranged to move between a closed position and an open position without the use of threads. The closed position prevents evacuation of fluid from the housing through the draining aperture, and the open position permits evacuation of fluid from the housing through the draining aperture. One valve arrangement may include a pair of ports and a pair of air vents. The valve is actuated by aligning the ports and air vents on a sliding sealing surface. An indicator arrangement including a float and a clear window is provided to give the user a visual indication of the level of water within the filter. Methods for using the constructions herein are provided.

A filter head adapted for use with spin-on filters is shown. The filter head carries a spring load piston which is normally biased to close a filter bypass channel. A fluid pressure increase caused by a clogged filter causes the piston to move opening the bypass and at the same time opening a signal channel between a source of fluid pressure and a signal outlet.

A filter head assembly includes a relief valve assembly therein, and is adapted for use in a spin-on filter or the like. When the relief valve assembly is in a closed mode of operation, fluid flow through the filter head, and an associated filter, results in conventional filtration. When the relief valve assembly is in open mode of operation, the filter is substantially bypassed permitting fluid to flow directly through the filter head, with filtration. The relief valve assembly includes a movable piston member therein, which opens and closes for the respective flow passage outwardly from a lateral takeoff port. Any substantial, undesirable, lateral forces acting upon a piston member may be substantially reduced by means of a lateral pressure release system provided according to the present invention. Generally, the lateral pressure-relief system comprises an annular recess formed in the piston member. The preferred piston member is cup-shaped and has an outer sidewall slide portion which forms a slip fit with a valve body relief valve. The preferred slide member includes groove means therein, facilitating movement. Also, preferably, a first end of the piston member includes an annular portion thereon providing an extension of a first end of the piston member to increase surface area against which fluid pressure may act.

The present invention is directed to a duplex filter apparatus which provides for a first primary filter path and a second path for secondary filtration. The first path includes a shutoff valve on one side of the primary filter and a check valve on the downstream side. The second path includes a regulating bypass valve on the upstream side of the secondary filter and a check valve on the downstream side. The regulating bypass valve gradually shifts fluid flow from the first path to the second path when differential pressure across the primary filter increases beyond a predetermined level. A reservoir return bypass valve directs fluid flow gradually from the secondary filter when differential pressure across the secondary filter increases beyond a predetermined level. Bleed valves are provided to relieve pressure on filter elements when the filter elements are isolated so that servicing may occur.
