Stretchable, multilayer films are disclosed that include a thermoplastic polyurethane substrate and a thermoset coating, applied to the thermoplastic polyurethane substrate. The thermoset coating may comprise the reaction product of: an oligomeric polyester resin comprising the reaction product of: diols or polyols comprising from about 30 to about 99 mol % trimethylolpropane and from about 1 mol % to about 70 mol % neopentyl glycol, in each case based on the total molar amount of diols and polyols reacted, and dicarboxylic acids or polycarboxylic acids comprising from about 1 mol % to about 70 mol % of one or more cyclic or acyclic aliphatic acids having from 2 to 12 carbons, based on the total molar amount of dicarboxylic acids and polycarboxylic acids reacted.

Stretchable multilayer films

This invention relates to aliphatic polyester resins for use in coatings. More particularly this invention relates to aliphatic polyester resins containing 2,2,4,4-tetramethyl-1,3-cyclobutanediol (TMCD) that exhibit improved scratch resistance when formulated into 1 K automotive clearcoats. These polyesters can be used as the sole resin in the clearcoat binder or in combination with carbamate-functional acrylic resins and/or hydroxyl-functional acrylic and polyester resins.

Coatings with improved scratch resistance

This invention relates to a carbamate functional thermosetting coating with a composition comprised of a carbamate-functional acrylic and/or polyester polyol and an alkylated melamine-formaldehyde cross linker modified by an aliphatic polyester and an alkylated melamine. The polyester polyol is made of monomers including a 2,4,4-tetraalkylcyclobutane-1,3-diol and an aliphatic diacid. These polyester polyols can be used in blends with hydroxyl-functional or carbamate-functional acrylic resins or serve as the primary film former in a coating formulation.
