The present specification discloses a portable dialysis system comprising a mechanism that allows the user to accurately position an air bubble in a venous line, so that it can be safely removed. When an air bubble is detected, the system automatically runs the blood pump in a direction such that the air bubble is placed close to the extraction point on the venous line, from where it can safely be removed using a needleless syringe.

A medical pump system includes an input device for entering a command or a value of a pump programming parameter and a memory for storing a programming code. A processor is in communication with the memory and the input device in order to generate a display signal for an output device to generate one of a plurality of screens, such as near view and far view screens. The programming code is operable to display on a far view screen a plurality of medical therapy buttons that can be used to navigate directly to a near view programming screen. The far view screen can also concurrently display quick titration buttons that are associated with the medical therapy buttons and can be used to navigate directly to a quick titration screen without having to go to a general near view delivery screen or near view programming screen.

A medical pump that provides advance guidance to a user regarding existence and limits of a valid input range for a pump programming parameter includes an input device for entering a value of a pump programming parameter, a memory for storing constraints related to the pump programming parameter, and a processor in communication with the memory and the input device. The processor dynamically utilizes the constraints to determine and generate a signal indicating whether a valid input range exists for a to-be-entered value of the pump programming parameter and notifies the user.
