A device for hydrocarbon resource recovery from at least one well in a subterranean formation may include a radio frequency (RF) source, a solvent source, and a double-wall structure coupled to the RF source to define an RF antenna within the at least one well to provide RF heating to the subterranean formation. The double-wall structure may absorb heat from adjacent portions of the subterranean formation. The double-wall structure may also include inner and outer walls defining a solvent passageway therebetween coupled to the solvent source. The outer wall may have a plurality of openings therein to eject solvent into the subterranean formation. The double-wall structure may transfer heat to the solvent so that the ejected solvent is in a vapor state.

Apparatus for hydrocarbon resource recovery including a double-wall structure and related methods

A device for processing hydrocarbon resources in a subterranean formation may include a radio frequency (RF) source, a dielectric cooling liquid source, and an RF applicator in the subterranean formation and coupled to the RF source to supply RF power to the hydrocarbon resources. The RF applicator may include concentric tubular conductors defining cooling passageways therebetween coupled to the dielectric cooling fluid source. At least one property of the dielectric cooling liquid, a flow rate of the dielectric cooling liquid, and a configuration of the cooling passageways may be operable together to generate a turbulent flow of the dielectric cooling liquid adjacent surfaces of the plurality of concentric tubular conductors to enhance thermal transfer.

Hydrocarbon resource processing apparatus for generating a turbulent flow of cooling liquid and related methods

A system for heating a hydrocarbon resource in a subterranean formation having a wellbore extending therein may include a radio frequency (RF) antenna configured to be positioned within the wellbore, an RF source, a cooling fluid source, and a transmission line coupled between the RF antenna and the RF source. A plurality of ring-shaped choke cores may surround the transmission line, and a sleeve may surround the ring-shaped choke cores and define a cooling fluid path for the ring-shaped choke cores and in fluid communication with the cooling fluid source.

Hydrocarbon resource heating system including common mode choke assembly and related methods

Equipment and a process for separating bitumen from oil sand in a process stream are described. The equipment includes several processing vessels and one or more local area radio frequency applicators to selectively heat the process stream in local areas of the equipment. The local area can be adjacent to an input or output of a component of the equipment. Also described is equipment for processing an oil sand&#x2014;water slurry, including a slurrying vessel, a slurry pipe, and a local area radio frequency applicator. The local area radio frequency applicator is located outside of the slurry pipe, and heats the local area without significantly heating the contents of the slurrying vessel or of the downstream portion of the slurry pipe.

A method of determining a permittivity of a substance may include providing a probe having a planar end surface, providing a signal source and a signal receiver coupled to the probe, and physically contacting the substance with the planar end surface of the probe defining an interface. The method may further include measuring a reflection coefficient of the substance by at least transmitting a signal through the probe to the interface, receiving a reflected signal from the interface, and comparing the transmitted and reflected signals. The method may further include calculating the permittivity of the substance based upon the reflection coefficient.

The weight (m) of a sample charge of oil sand ore having a bulk volume (V) is determined. A target specific gravity value (SG) is selected for the fluidized oil sand ore. The volume of additional water, &#x394;V, to add to a sample charge of bulk volume V, to achieve the target specific gravity value (SG) is calculated by solving the following equation: The determined volume &#x394;V of additional water per bulk volume Vof oil sand ore to be processed is added to the oil sand ore, producing water-fluidized oil sand ore. The ore is then processed to concentrate the bitumen.

To train the sequential kinematic behavior of an automated telekinegenesis robot system, a virtual reality simulator is driven with kinematic parameter data derived from a teleoperational device, which models the sequential behavior to be exhibited by the target robot. Sensor outputs of the teleoperational device are processed by a geometry conversion algorithm, to generate data representative of the spatial kinematics of the robot's desired travel path. A kinematic machine simulator program within a robotic control simulation workstation simulates a virtual machine based upon the actual parameters of the robot. The virtual reality simulation program is interactive, allowing the workstation operator to selectively interrupt the operation of the machine, modify its control parameters, and then rerun the program, until the desired behavior of the target machine is achieved. When the target machine's simulated kinematic behavior produced by the virtual reality simulation workstation exhibits the desired dynamic spatial geometry profile, the customized spatial parameter data stored in the workstation is processed by the virtual reality simulation program, to produce a sequence of kinematic control instructions that are downloaded into the micro controller of the target machine. When executed, the kinematic control instructions cause the robot to exhibit its intended on-line sequential kinematic behavior.

A solar energy concentrator system comprises an offset reflector structure made up of a plurality of solar energy reflector panel sections interconnected with one another to form a piecewise approximation of a portion of a (parabolic) surface of revolution rotated about a prescribed focal axis. Each panel section is comprised of a plurality of reflector facets whose reflective surfaces effectively focus reflected light to preselected surface portions of the interior sidewall of a cylindrically shaped solar energy receiver. The longitudinal axis of the receiver is tilted at an acute angle with respect to the optical axis such that the distribution of focussed solar energy over the interior surface of the solar engine is optimized for dynamic solar energy conversion. Each reflector panel section comprises a flat, hexagonally shaped truss support framework and a plurality of beam members interconnecting diametrically opposed corners of the hexagonal framework recessed within which a plurality of (spherically) contoured reflector facets is disposed. The depth of the framework and the beam members is greater than the thickness of a reflector facet such that a reflector facet may be tilted (for controlling the effective focus of its reflected light through the receiver aperture) without protruding from the panel section.
