A snow ski assembly is provided for use by an individual to slide across a snow covered surface, for example, under the force of gravity. The assembly includes a ski having a bottom wall for engaging the snow covered surface and an upturned peripheral region extending around a perimeter of the bottom wall. The bottom wall of the ski includes at least one control structure extending across at least a portion of the bottom wall, where the at least one control structure is configured to control a movement of the ski on the snow covered surface. The assembly also includes a mounting feature configured to couple a binding to the bottom wall of the ski, such that the individual can position a foot in the binding and use the ski to slide across the snow covered surface.

A snow ski assembly is provided for use by an individual to slide across a snow covered surface, for example, under the force of gravity. The assembly includes a ski having a bottom wall for engaging a snow covered surface and an upturned peripheral region extending around a perimeter of the bottom wall to help facilitate sliding movement of the ski across a snow covered surface in any direction, without preference to a particular direction, and to help inhibit the ski from digging into the snow covered surface when sliding across the snow covered surface. The assembly also includes a mounting feature for coupling a binding to the bottom wall of the ski, such that an individual can position a foot in the binding and use the ski to slide across the snow covered surface.

An analyzer apparatus includes a receptacle for an ampoule, an analysis system, an incubator, and a master control. The analysis system includes a light source and a photodetector positioned such that the light from the light source passes through the receptacle. The master control includes a display, a timer, and a memory provided with a look-up table. During operation, an ampoule containing a sample and an indicator which changes color when a certain level of biological activity is present in the sample is placed within the receptacles. The analysis system is operated to transmit light at the predetermined wavelength through the ampoule to the detector, and a maximum amount of light passing through the ampoule is logged. The incubator is operated to heat the receptacle and the ampoule therein to a desired test temperature and the timer is started. The analysis system periodically transmits light through the ampoule. Increased biological activity in the ampoule causes a color change in the indicator which reduces light transmission through the ampoule. When the light detected is reduced relative to the light transmitted by a predetermined percentage of the maximum amount of light, the master control signals that the test is complete. Based on the amount of time required for this to occur, the master control determines from the look-up table the bacterial content in the sample at the start of the test.

Ampoule analyzer apparatus

A light analysis system for analyzing light transmitted through an ampoule includes a housing having at least one receptacle for the ampoule, a cover for substantially preventing ambient light from affecting the receptacle and having an interior reflective surface, and a master control system. Each receptacle includes at least one light source and a photodetector positioned such that the light from the light source passes through the receptacle (and thereby the ampoule and its contents) prior to entering the photodetector. According to one preferred aspect of the invention, the receptacles are provided preferably at a 30&deg; to 45&deg; angle relative to vertical. According to another preferred aspect of the invention, the light source is at least one LED which is directed to transmit light upward into the reflective surface of the cover such that the light is reflected by the cover downward into the receptacle toward the photodetector. The master control system permits user input, operates the light analysis system, and provides a user-readable display for the output of the results of the light analysis of the contents of the ampoule in the receptacle. The apparatus may include a large number of receptacles suitable for laboratory use or may include fewer or one receptacle suitable for home or portable use. Power supply circuitry is provided facilitating the use of the apparatus in a variety of environments.

Light analyzer apparatus

A light analysis system for analyzing light transmitted through an ampoule includes a housing having at least one. receptacle for the ampoule, a cover for substantially preventing ambient light from affecting the receptacle and having an interior reflective surface, and a master control system. Each receptacle includes at least one light source and a photodetector positioned such that the light from the light source passes through the receptacle (and thereby the ampoule and its contents) prior to entering the photodetector. An ampoule incubator and light analyzer is provided which includes a housing having at least one receptacle for an ampoule, an incubation system, a light analysis system, and a master control system. According to the invention, the incubation system includes, for each receptacle, a heating element which heats the ampoule and a temperature sensor which senses the temperature of the ampoule. Each receptacle is preferably insulated to prevent unintended heating of neighboring receptacles of the apparatus. The incubation system is adapted to quickly heat the receptacle, and consequently the ampoule provided therein, up to the desired temperature. The incubation system is calibrated by soaking the circuits of the control system in a controlled temperature environment maintained at the desired operation temperature for analysis of the ampoules. When the circuits are at the desired operation temperature, the circuits of the incubation system are powered and switches in the circuits are closed causing a microcontroller of the master control system to store digital representations of the temperature of each individual receptacle in non-volatile memory. Then, during operation of the apparatus, the incubation system is directed to the values previously set in non-volatile memory during calibration, without necessitating expensive and error-prone trim pots, ultra high precision components, or other adjustable components.

Incubation system for an analyzer apparatus

A portable power system for a hand tool employs a high-voltage transmission of power from a battery pack over a cord to a DC to DC converter, which steps the transmission voltage down to rated tool voltage. The system uses a switching transistor to transmit power according to a duty cycle which varies automatically according to tool current draw and voltage. The DC to DC converter employs synchronous rectification with an inductor-capacitor network to transform a duty cycle square wave into DC power. The startup voltage sense feature permits powering up the converter circuitry only when needed. The converter will shut down if no current has been drawn by the tool for a predetermined period of time or if the converter unit is in danger of overheating, as determined by a stored algorithm. The portable power system has safeguards to prevent fouling or shorting in wet environments, is adaptable to left or right handed users, and is physically configurable into a variety of carrying modes.

Portable power system using DC to DC converter

A Portable Power System configured to supply an appropriate voltage to an electrical device. The system includes a battery pack having at least one cell supplying a first direct current voltage, and an adapter. The adapter, which is electrically connected to the battery pack by an electrical cord, is configured to be mechanically connected to the device. The adapter also includes a DC to DC voltage converter supplying a second direct current voltage to the device, the second voltage being smaller than the first voltage but sufficient to permit the intended operation of the device.

A power takeoff and lighting unit for a fluorescent fixture is disclosed and comprises an elongate housing having spaced apart connectors on opposite ends for connection to a standard fluorescent lighting fixture. The housing includes a first segment containing electronics for converting power to usable power, such as direct current, and has a power cord that extends outwardly from the segment. Preferably, the unit has a maximum diameter less than twice the diameter of a standard fluorescent tube, and preferably less than 11/2 times the diameter of a standard fluorescent tube, thus providing a compact profile and enabling modular replacement of a standard bulb with the power takeoff lighting unit.

A torso attitude sensor for attachment to a human A torso at the waist. It senses when a human torso bends past a predetermined lumbosacral angle and sounds an alarm. The sensor may be worn on the left or right side of the waist because it includes two attitude responsive switches which are inclined in directions opposite to each other. The device further includes a counter for determining the number of times the electrical circuit is connected thereby providing the person, or his or her manager, with an indication of the number of times improper bending occurs. A timer is included with which actuation of an attitude responsive switch must persist for a minimum time interval before an alarm signal or excessive bending signal is generated.
