An intrusion detection system that provides foliage penetration is disclosed employing an array of field disturbance transceivers operating at UHF frequencies. The array of transceivers generate a multiplicity of electromagnetic wave fields between nearby units and detect the presence of intruders by detecting disturbances in these fields. The emitted UHF signals used to generate the electromagnetic wave fields are also used to provide the communication link between transceivers in the array and to a control station. The control station facilitates the operation of the array from a remote monitoring site. A unique method of array deployment provides multiple opportunities to detect an intruder and secondarily provides redundant communication links in case of a sensor failure. Automatic means of setting detection thresholds based on environmental conditions assures a high probability of detection along with a low false alarm rate.

Foliage penetrating sensor array for intrusion detection

A wave guide scanner assembly having an oscillating support for a scanning antenna which is driven by an assembly having no contacting components. The scanner assembly is particularly useful for motor vehicular collision warning systems. The drive assembly for the oscillating support includes a coil and magnet for driving the support when current is applied thereby resulting in translational movement of the magnet and oscillating movement of the support. A spring flexure assembly is connected to the support for providing controlled harmonic oscillation to the support and antenna.

Antenna scanner

A radar apparatus has an inclined slot wave guide array to form a narrow azimuth beam and a dielectric lens in front of the array to form a narrow elevation beam. The radar apparatus is particularly useful for motor vehicular collision warning systems. The inclined slot wave guide forms an antenna which is driven to oscillate back and forth at a small angle. The dielectric lens is fixed in position relative to the slotted wave guide antenna. The combination of the slotted array for forming a narrow horizontal pattern in combination with the dielectric lens for forming a vertical pattern provides an arrangement that is readily scannable.

An apparatus for the detection of any intruder passing through an electronic fence is disclosed. The electronic fence is formed by a millimeter wave radar positioned at one end of the fence and a plurality of reflectors placed along the floor of the fence as well as on a structure at its far end. The fence is formed of a plurality of electromagnetic beams traversing between the radar antenna or antennas and each of the reflectors. A sufficient number of beams inhabit the fence volume to make traversing the fence by an intruder without detection essentially impossible. The radar reflection from the intruder's person is used to report the location of an intruder attempting to traverse the electronic fence near the radar end and is the secondary means of detection at greater ranges where breaking of one or more electromagnetic beams constitutes the primary means of detection.

Electronic fence using high-resolution millimeter-wave radar in conjunction with multiple passive reflectors

A system and method for generating a linear frequency sweep while also improving the phase noise characteristics of a microwave or millimeter wave signal source. The invention uses two phase lock loops. The first phase lock loop uses a linear frequency source to linearize a relatively low frequency VCO (typically around 100 MHz). The first phase lock loop has a bandwidth that is only wide enough to pass the radar modulation waveform with minimal distortion. The first phase lock loop includes a phase detector, narrow band loop filter, low noise HF VCO and a divide by M counter. The second phase lock loop is used to lock a millimeter wave VCO to the lower frequency of the low frequency VCO in the first loop. The low phase noise characteristics of this low frequency VCO are effectively impressed upon a microwave or millimeter wave, low noise high frequency VCO. The low noise high frequency VCO output from the first phase lock loop becomes the reference input for the second phase lock loop, which includes a phase detector, wide band loop filter, millimeter wave (MMW) VCO a local oscillator, mixer, amplifier/filter and a divide by R counter. The MMW VCO output is the FM-CW radar transmitted signal.
