The present invention provides a non-aqueous lubricant composition comprising a base stock and 5 at least 0.02 wt % of a friction reducing additive which comprises a block co-polymer of at least one block A which is an oligo- or polyester residue of a hydroxycarboxylic acid and at least one block B which is a residue of a polyalkylene glycol. The invention also provides the use of a block co-polymer of at least one block A which is an oligo- or polyester residue of a hydroxycarboxylic acid and at least one block B which is a residue of a polyalkylene glycol to reduce the kinetic co-efficientof friction in a non-aqueous lubricant composition when compared to an equivalent lubricant composition comprising no block co-polymer.

Lubricant composition

The invention provides a lubricant formulation comprising: (a) a base oil selected from API Group I to V oils and mixtures thereof; (b) 0.01 to 10 wt % on the basis of the total weight of the lubricant formulation of a friction modifier additive; and (c) other lubricant formulation additives. The friction modifier additive has a hydroxyl value in the range from 10 to 300 mg KOH/g and is the reaction product of reactants comprising: i) a dimer fatty acid; ii) a polyol; iii) optionally, a C2 to C12 dicarboxylic acid or diol; and iv) optionally, a C1 to C10 mono-carboxylic acid or mono-alcohol. The invention also provides a method of lubricating an internal combustion engine comprising a crankcase and a wet clutch and the use of a friction modifier additive.

Lubricant formulation comprising friction modifier additive

The present invention relates to a lubricated system comprising: a) a component comprising a first surface which is a diamond-like carbon (DLC) surface; b) a component comprising a second surface; and c) a lubricant formulation interposed between the first surface and second surface. The lubricant formulation comprises: i) a base stock; ii) a molybdenum compound; iii) an organic polymer comprising a hydrophobic polymeric sub unit selected from polyesters and functionalised polyolefins and a hydrophilic polymeric sub unit selected from polyethers; and iv) optionally, other additives. The combination of the molybdenum compound and the organic polymer in the lubricant formulation reduces the wear on one or more of the surfaces in the lubricated system when compared with using the molybdenum containing friction modifier alone.

The present invention relates to a gear oil composition containing a base stock and at least 0.01 wt % of a friction reducing additive which comprises a glycerol and/or polyglycerol Cto Csaturated fatty ester. The gear oil composition is suitable for use in gear boxes in automotive, industrial and marine applications.

A lubricant composition for metal forming and cutting has at least one compound of the formula (I): R&#x2014;(AO)&#x2014;OOC&#x2014;(CH)&#x2014;Ph&#x2014;(R)where Ris a Cto Calkyl group AO is an alkyleneoxy group which may vary along the (poly) alkylenoxy chain; n is 0 or from 1 to 100; m is 0, 1 or 2; and Ph is a phenly group, which may be substituted with groups (R); where each Ris independently an alkyl, halogen, haloalky or alkoxy group; and p is 0 or from 1 to 3. The lubricant composition also includes at least one lubricant additive selected from the group consisting of an organic ester additive, a polyalkylene glycol additive, a sulphur-containing synthetic additive, a sulphur-containing oleochemical additive, a suiphonate, a phosphorus-containing additive and a chlorinated paraffin additive. Also described are a method of using the lubricant composition in metal forming and cutting applications and the use of the lubricant composition in metal forming and cutting applications. The lubricant composition may also be used in water-based compositions for such applications.
