A variable intensity light device is provided to illuminate front panel user buttons in a television apparatus. The television apparatus allows user control of the level of light intensity preferably via an on-screen menu. Automatic detection circuitry/logic is also provided that detects whether a light such as an LED is present upon initial user set-up. This allows the inclusion of the light device in televisions whose controllers are already designed. Moreover, the light device preferably utilizes a single wire for light presence detection and intensity control. Detection of the light causes the television apparatus to include a light control on-screen menu in the main television on-screen menu. Preferably, the light control menu allows the user selection of at least six different brightness or intensity levels for the light. In one form, the light is a diode that provides blue light though a light pipe.

A speaker housing for mounting at least one speaker therein is disclosed. The speaker housing includes a speaker enclosure sealed to a speaker cover. The speaker enclosure includes an opening for sealing a connector attached to a crossover printed circuit board assembly thereto. The connector protrudes through the opening in the speaker enclosure while the printed circuit board to which it is attached compresses a compressible gasket against a wall surrounding the opening in the speaker enclosure, sealing the connector thereto. The chassis wiring is coupled to the connector providing an inexpensive sealed interface between the electronics chassis and the crossover board assembly.

Speaker assembly for a television cabinet

A mounting arrangement for a circuit board on the neck of a cathode ray tube includes a guide member formed in the cathode ray tube base. The guide member is formed to have a surface extending perpendicular to the tube longitudinal axis. The circuit board incorporates a socket having a channel for receiving the guide member for aligning the socket on the tube base. A portion of a locking piece is inserted through a hole in the socket wall in order to abut the perpendicular surface of the guide member to prevent removal of the socket from the tube base. A second portion of the locking piece forms a hook which cooperates with the socket to prevent inadvertent removal of the locking piece.

Circuit board mounting arrangement

An institutional television system includes a source of standard broadcast composite television signals, an auxiliary source of RF carrier signals conveying sound information exclusive of video information, and a television receiver. The television receiver selectably processes the composite television signal including the sync component thereof in a normal mode, and selectably processes the auxiliary signals in an audio mode. The receiver comprises a video signal processing channel that is similarly energized in both the normal and audio modes. The video channel is controlled to enable light output from the kinescope of the receiver when the video sync component is present in the normal mode, and to inhibit light output from the kinescope when the video sync component is absent in the audio mode.

Institutional audio-visual system including a plural operating mode

A chassis for a television receiver is provided which is adapted to operate in cooperation with any one of a number of electrical subsystems which perform similar functions but have differing signal and power requirements, such as tuners, receiver controls, et cetera, and are located remote from the chassis within the receiver. Each subsystem is coupled to a connector by a cable. The connector includes a row of contacts located in symmetrically spaced holes in the connector. One of the holes is blocked and serves as a keying indication. Mounted on the chassis is a row of similarly symmetrically spaced terminals, with one terminal missing from the row. A connector can only be mated with the terminal row when the blocked hole in aligned with the missing terminal location.
