Dive computers incorporating a variety of features are disclosed. One embodiment of the invention includes a dive computer including a microprocessor, memory configured to store a software application, a pressure transducer configured to determine depth information, and a communications device configured to communicate with external devices, wherein the software application configures the microprocessor to create a dive log stored in memory, wherein the dive log includes recorded information including depth of submersion information recorded from the pressure transducer, and transmit the dive log using the communications device.

Systems and methods for dive computers with remote upload capabilities

Dive computers in accordance with embodiments of the invention are disclosed. One embodiment includes a mobile phone handset, including a microprocessor, a microphone connected to the microprocessor, a speaker connected to the microprocessor, a telephone transceiver connected to the microprocessor, memory, a display, and an external connector for communicating with external devices wherein the memory contains a software application, and a waterproof housing including a pressure transducer, where the mobile phone handset is located within the waterproof housing and connected to the pressure transducer via the external connector, and wherein the software application configures the mobile phone handset to create a dive log stored in memory, wherein the dive log comprises recorded information including depth of submersion information recorded from the pressure transducer and display the recorded information during the dive.

Dive computer with global positioning system receiver

Dive computers in accordance with embodiments of the invention are disclosed. One embodiment includes a microprocessor, a pressure transducer connected to the microprocessor, a microphone connected to the microprocessor, a speaker connected to the microprocessor, a telephone transceiver connected to the microprocessor, a GPS receiver connected to the microprocessor and a display. In addition, the microprocessor, pressure transducer and display are configured to display information concerning the dive computer's depth of submersion, the microprocessor, microphone, speaker and telephone transceiver are configured to enable the dive computer to be used as a telephone handset, and the microprocessor is configured to obtain GPS coordinates from the GPS receiver. In a further embodiment, the microprocessor, the microphone, the speaker, the telephone transceiver, the display, and the GPS receiver are components of a mobile phone handset including an external connector for communicating with external devices, the pressure transducer is packaged separately from the mobile phone handset and the pressure transducer packaging includes a connector configured to mate with the external connector of the mobile phone handset creating a connection between the pressure transducer and the microprocessor, and the mobile phone handset and the pressure transducer are contained within a waterproof housing. In addition, a software application installed on the mobile phone handset configures the microprocessor to record information concerning the dive computer's depth and time of submersion in a dive log.

The invention disclosed herein employs an algorithm, the Gas Formation Model ('GFM'), to calculate the formation of free gas in a human body. The GFM is based on a novel theory of the formation of free gas relative to the physiology of the human cardiovascular system. Additionally, the GFM utilizes a novel means for the solution of integro-differential equations, the type of equations that derive from the introduction of physiological parameters. GFM-based dive computers utilize novel inputs, including a measure of exercise at depth to reflect the state of an individual's cardiovascular system. GFM-based dive computers also produce novel outputs, including the actual volume of free gas present in a diver's cardiovascular system. The GFM is implemented as a practical computational tool by means of a incorporating the algorithm into a dive computer.

Dive computer and method for determining gas formation

Dive computers and methods of logging information including position, audio and video information are disclosed. In one embodiment, the invention includes a processor, a global positioning system receiver connected to the processor and a pressure transducer connected to the processor.

A method and apparatus for accurately determining air time remaining in a self-contained breathing apparatus quantifies the effects of various non-linearities in order to define an accurate estimate of air time remaining within a gas supply tank. An analytical expression relates a mass equivalent to measured tank pressure through a power function. The system determines the rate of change of pressure with respect to time in order to determine numerical values for a rate of change of mass equivalent with respect to time, as well as the values of a set of constants relating mass equivalent to the pressure power function. A range of pressure:mass equivalent data pairs are produced which express the pressure/mass equivalent relationship over a range of specified mass equivalents. A function is curve fit to the data points in order to develop an expression which relates mass as a function of pressure directly or various pressure:mass equivalent data points are stored in a look-up table and, for any given measured pressure, a corresponding mass can be determined by simply consulting the table.

System and method for air time remaining calculations in a self-contained breathing apparatus

A method and apparatus for a self contained underwater breathing apparatus in which a breathing gas is supplied to a flow loop from two separate gas sources each having a different oxygen fraction, and each controlled by separate mass flow controllers having variable flow rate. The mass controller flow rates are adaptively adjustable to deliver gas at variable flow rates which depend solely on a function of depth. An algorithm determines these specific flow rates from each of the tanks at particular depths, such that the gas flow from an oxygen rich gas source decreases as a function of depth, while the gas flow from a diluent gas source increases as a function of depth, so as to maintain the oxygen partial pressure in the flow loop within a specific pre-determined range. The algorithm allows calculation of an optimum oxygen partial pressure, for a particular dive, which allows construction of a dive profile which maximizes bottom time while taking into account no-decompression time at depth, tank capacity limited time, and single-dive and daily pulmonary oxygen toxicity limits.

A diving mask has a body for sealably engaging a wearer's face. The mask has one or more transparent viewing plates supported by the body, each having inner and outer surfaces. One or more prisms or simply curved lenses are affixed to the viewing plates to improve the diver's field of vision. A pair of horizontally oriented prisms or lenses may be mounted to a front viewing plate below the diver's normal view plane to provide a field of view directed downward toward the diver's body so as to provide a self-inspection capability. Vertically oriented prisms or lenses may be mounted on front and side plates to produce an enhanced and substantially continuous horizontal peripheral field of view.
