A cover assembly is provided for preventing water infiltration into an in-floor receptacle fitting, such as a poke-thru fitting. The cover assembly includes a trim flange which overlies the fitting and is adapted to support at least one receptacle within the fitting. A cover plate is mounted on the trim flange includes access doors for selectively covering and exposing the receptacles. A first seal member is interposed between the cover plate and the trim flange for sealing against water infiltration therebetween. The first seal may be in the form of a planar gasket or O-ring. A second seal, in the form of at least one compressible gasket, extends around the perimeter of the floor opening and is adapted to be compressed between the trim flange and the surface of the floor. The cover plate may also include top and bottom portions and a third seal member interposed between the top and bottom portions.

Cover assembly for an in-floor fitting

An in-floor, flush poke-through wiring fitting may be installed in the floor of a structure to enable the activation of power, communication, and/or data services at the fitting location. The poke-through fitting internally supports four power receptacles and a plurality of communication/data jacks. The power receptacles may be connected in a single electrical circuit, or may be connected in dual electrical circuits. The poke-through fitting will support data connectors in either a flush mount position or a recessed mounting position. An excess cover includes separate sliding covers for each of the power receptacles and communication/data jacks.

A cover assembly is provided for preventing water infiltration into an in-floor receptacle fitting, such as a poke-thru fitting. The fitting includes an internal compartment which is accessible through an opening in the surface of the floor. The cover assembly includes a trim flange which overlies the floor opening. The trim flange supports at least one receptacle, such as a power receptacle, within the fitting such that the receptacle can be interconnected within the inner compartment with source cables that enter the fitting from below the floor, and can be interconnected from above with a connector such as a male electrical plug. A cover plate is mounted on the trim flange and overlies the receptacles carried by the fitting. The cover plate includes a plurality of access doors. Each of the access doors is movable between a first position at which it overlies an associated receptacle to prevent access thereto and a second position at which the associated receptacle is exposed and accessible from above. A first seal member interposed between the cover assembly first and second portions and adapted to seal against water infiltration therebetween. The first seal is in the form of a planar gasket which is sandwiched between the cover assembly first and second portions. The first seal overlies the receptacles and at least the portions of the trim flange which surround the perimeters of the receptacles. Access openings in the first seal provide access to the receptacles. Ribs extend upwardly around the perimeters of the openings and form an abut against the bottoms of the access doors when the doors are at their closed positions. The interference fit between the ribs and the access doors seals against water infiltration therebetween and into the fitting. The first seal further includes a downwardly extending rib which engages in a reciprocal groove formed in the trim flange around the perimeter of the receptacles. A second seal, in the form of at least one compressible gasket, extends around the perimeter of the floor opening and is adapted to be compressed between the cover assembly first portion and the floor's surface when the first portion is connected to the fitting.

Water-tight cover assembly for an in-floor fitting

An access cover for a receptacle fitting includes a cover plate connectable to the fitting at a location overlying a receptacle carried by the fitting. An access door includes a first portion slidably connected to the cover plate for movement between open and closed positions. The access door also includes a second portion having a first end pivotally connected to the access door first portion. The second end of the door second portion pivots to a first position overlying the receptacle in response to movement of the access door first portion towards its closed position, and pivots to a second position at which the receptacle is exposed and accessible through the cover plate in response to movement of the access door first portion towards its open position. Pivot features are formed on the cover plate and/or the access door for imparting rotational forces on the door second portion as the door first portion is slid between its open and closed positions. When the fitting includes multiple receptacles, the access door may be configured to cover some or all of the receptacles. Similarly, when a receptacle includes multiple terminals or outlets, the access door may be configured to cover some or all of the terminals/outlets in the receptacle. Alternatively, separate access doors of the same or different construction may be provided for each receptacle in the fitting and/or each terminal/outlet in a given receptacle.

The in-floor, flush poke-through wiring fitting may be installed in the floor of a structure to enable the activation of power, communication, and/or data services at the fitting location. The poke-through fitting includes an interference shielding barrier to prevent E.M. and R.F. interference with the signal services. The poke-through fitting also includes pre-shaped fire-retarding materials, which are encapsulated to prevent degradation and damage. The poke-through fitting accommodates RJ-45 Category 5 signal jacks such that the faces of the jacks (that is, the faces that may receive selectively, RJ-45 Category 5 connectors) are mounted substantially flush with an upper outwardly facing surface of the fitting.

Flush poke-through wiring fitting

An insert for a poke-through fitting, including a plurality of sealing elements adapted to absorb heat, expand, and flow into openings under pressure, and a plurality of insulating elements adapted to absorb heat, cure, cross-link, emit water, and dissipate heat, upon activation by heat and flame from a fire. The sealing and insulating elements are adapted to enable the fire rating of the floor in which the poke-through fitting is installed to be substantially the same with or without the hole and fitting therein, to enable the hole in the floor to be smaller to reduce the hazard of transmission of heat and flame from a fire therethrough, and to enable the capacity for passing wires to be greater in the smaller hole for increased wire capacity. The insert further includes a retaining element, assisted by compressible sealing elements, adapted to enable the insert to be retained in the hole in the floor, and, upon the exertion of increased pulling force, to be held fast in the hole in the floor, to prevent the safety hazard of electrical shock and fire from exposed live ends of pulled-apart power wires.

Insert for poke-through fitting

A poke-through fitting, adapted to feed a cable or cables therethrough to a piece of furniture, including a raceway extending through the fitting, and a top portion which includes a medial portion including a plurality of sides each adapted to normally close the fitting, and to enable an opening to be formed therein to enable egress of the cable or cables, adapted to enable the volume of the cable or cables passing therethrough to be substantially greater than the volume of a cable or cables adapted to pass through a standard furniture feed poke-through fitting. The fitting is further adapted to be fire rated, including sealing elements, insulating elements, and radiating elements adapted to enable the fire-rating of the fire-rated floor to be substantially the same with or without the hole and fitting therein.

Fire-rated furniture feed poke-through fitting

An automatic electric cable passage closure and sealing device, for positioning in an opening in a structure such as a floor or wall, etc., for passing or connecting a cable or cables and cable conduits therethrough, the device automatically expanding and sealing itself and the cables and cable conduits in the structural opening on occurrence of excess heat or fire. The device comprises a hollow conducting casing to be positioned in a cable or conduit passage in the structure, said casing having novel means effectuating automatic movement and expansion of intumescing, fire retarding, means on occurrence of fire or highly elevated temperatures, said intumescing means pressing through the cables insulation and onto the conductor wires interiorly of the cables. Said wires are thereby automatically sealed in the casing, and in the structure, said intumescing means expanding in and around the casing, completely filling the casing and the floor or wall opening wherein the casing is positioned, automatically forming a unitary and continuous closure of the structure wherein the device is positioned, preventing passage of heat or flames therethrough.

Automatic cable passage closure and sealing device

A through-floor electrical outlet fitting, for insertion into structural openings of minimum diameter. The device has means for interlocking with and conforming to such openings, and to those of a wide range of thicknesses, for locking the device in the opening. Raceway means in the device separate passage therethrough and transfer of electrical service cables for at least two different electrical functions or services, such as high and low voltage insulated cables. The device has intumescent means thereon, encircling the cable raceways to conform the length thereof to varying depths of structural openings, as fire rated insulating barriers, so disposed that there is no need for a multiplicity of devices or field adjustments for varying depths of structural openings. The device and above-floor service head portions are capable of accepting maximum size low voltage communication cables, through the use of a radiator separately mounted in the service head, to allow dissipation of heat to a non-sensitive area.

Through-floor electrical outlet fitting

A cable module device wherein a grommet plate closes the upper end of the module and, in the absence of high heat, seals and protects the module where, for example, a fire, located away from the module, results in cold smoke and water moving onto the module as from a sprinkler, fire hose, broken pipes, etc. on floor above or same floor as the module. The module is further provided with normally inert heat-sensitive plates which when triggered by a flame expand, to form a barrier in the module against passage therethrough of such excessive heat and flames.

Cable module device

A trimless carpet base insert device, further provided with novel positioning and assembly features, enabling assembly and use thereof to be made in situ, by initially interlocking end members of the insert device with apertured portions of the cable raceway, thereby providing registration guide means for receiving and registering body portions of the insert device with said raceways, complementary interlocking means being provided on the body portion and end members. Thus the insert device body parts may be readily and compactly packaged and shipped and furnished to contractors and others in parts for ready assembly and installation in original building construction procedure or for subsequently positioning them as modules or units in openings formed in floors or other structural members.

Trimless carpet base insert device

A novel conduit device including oppositely opening conduit sections of triangular outline, formed complementarily with and engaging and grommeting axially offset apertures in the side walls of parallel raceways, for separate passage through the raceways and the conduit device of elongated different purpose and forms of devices, such as telephone and power cables and wires, avoiding danger of crossing such wires, and assuring their passage in safety through the device and to the related apparatus.

Insert device

A trimless flush floor fitting for positioning at an opening in a floor or other structural member, at a level line of said structural member, the fitting comprising a leveling frame member and linkage members complementarily adjustably connecting the frame member with a bracket in said floor opening, whereby, on actuation of the linkage means, said leaving frame may be adjustably moved to conform to the level line of the structural surface, without the necessity of using complex and special trim accessories. No trim shows on the carpeting or other floor covering material, the latter being used without pieces being removed therefrom (as in prior practices). Architecturally there is only a minimum of clutter on the carpet surface, only the cables, when coming through the device being visible; when the device is not in use, it is completely invisible and concealed by the carpet, which is back in place.
