A method and apparatus for separating particles preferentially accelerates particles to a rotating collector, which then reliably conveys collected particles to a discharge with minimal re-entrainment of the particles in the fluid stream. The collector minimizes energy transfer to the fluid and maximizes separation under conditions of high particle loading, fine particle content, or both. The separator may be operated in any vertical, horizontal or oblique orientation, or within devices whose orientation varies over time.

Method and apparatus for separating particles

A system for combusting carbon-containing fuel includes a reactorfor simultaneously supporting oxidation of the fuel and conversion of COwithin the reactor. A metal oxide or metal is input to the reactor to convert the COto a mineralized COproduct. A cold trapis provided for capturing exhaust gases from the reactor and returning condensate to the reactor, and a gas pumpmaintains a desired vacuum or pressure within the reactor and the cold trap. Combustion products may be recycled to increase their energy value.

Method and apparatus for reduced emissions fuel combustion

An apparatus and process for treating particulate material within a rotating retort in which gas is injected within the retort to fluidize the particulate material within the rotating retort. An auger is mounted within an axle supporting the retort for rotation and particulate material is injected by the auger within the retort. Gas may be exhausted from the retort through an annular chamber about the auger or from a hollow shaft of the auger. Gas may also be exhausted through a permeable wall of the retort.
