A tunable differential disc capacitor having a pair of outer dielectric discs and an electrically conductive rotor element, plural paired electrically conductive portions disposed on the respective dielectric discs and spring clamp means electrically and mechanically connected to respective pairs of the conductive portions. A preferred embodiment has three such pairs of conductive portions and a corresponding number of spring clamp means, so that the rotor element can be moved to various positions with respect to the conductive portions, varying the capacitance values. Electrical connection can be made to a spring clamp connected to the rotor element and to either or both of the other spring clamps, thereby obtaining one or two trimmable differential capacitors. The device can be used with the capacitors connected in series or in parallel. A sealed housing is also provided.

Differential disc capacitor

A sealed tunable capacitor in which a capacitor assembly of metallized stator discs having a rotor plate sandwiched therebetween, said rotor plate having a post portion extending upwardly and downwardly for rotative movement thereof within central openings in said discs and said rotor post portion having a recess adapted to receive a tuning tool, is contained within a sealed plastic housing such that said rotor tuning post recess is frictionally fitted within an opening in said housing and is accessible from the exterior of said housing and said housing includes a base member frictionally fitted to retain said capacitor assembly within said housing, the leads of said capacitor assembly sealed within slots in said housing base, by frictional fitting or an adhesive or both and said housing base further sealed by a coating of an epoxy adhesive to prevent the penetration of contaminants into said capacitor assembly.

Sealed tunable capacitor

Adjustable capacitors for incorporation with any substrate design, and for other general or specific capacitor uses, comprising a dielectric housing means, having base and sidewall eminating therefrom, a rotatable rotor (within said housing means), constructed from a highly conductive metal, having a cylindrical hub and at least one contoured blade plate emanating from the base of said hub, and a metallic retainer, coaxial with and encompassing said rotor hub, to captivate itself against said sidewall in a convex-concave relation to cover and to seal said capacitor assembly and to abut the inner portions of said blade plates to uniformly distribute plate pressure upon the active surface of said dielectric housing base. Displaced from the rotor blade plate by the dielectric housing base are contoured conductive metallized receptive stator electrode layers deposited upon or within said base for connection with receptive substrate circuitry. Thus, simplicity of design results in only three basic parts, the dielectric housing means, the rotor and the retainer.

Adjustable capacitors

A lead attachment for a ceramic chip capacitor characterized by a metallic strip lead having at one end two pre-formed L-shaped tabs, perpendicular relative to said metal lead strip, the distance between the arms of said tabs being less than the width of said chip, and said strip having a longitudinal slot running from said tabs partially down its length; each tab having an arm positioned inwardly relative to the longitudinal axis of said lead strip such that said tabs mechanically grip in a spring-like manner, facilitated by the slot, the end of a metalized, pretinned ceramic chip capacitor positioned between said tabs, and thereafter said lead tabs further secured by heating the assembly, thus forming a uniform electrical connection between said chip capacitor and said tab portion of said lead.
