The gripping element of a coiled tubing injector has a carrier and a removable gripping shoe mounted to the carrier. The removable shoe slides onto slots formed on the carrier and is floated on the carrier by inserting an elastomeric pad sandwiched between the carrier and shoe. A manually depressible spring along ones side of the carrier prevents the shoe from sliding out of the slots during operation of the injector.

Subsea intervention system, method and components thereof

A tubing injector () includes a traction device () having opposed grippers () laterally moveable so as to move a respective chain link member () of an endless loop chain into gripping engagement with the coiled tubing. A drive motor () is provided for powering the endless loop chain, and a plurality of roller bearings () each act between a respective chain link member and a gripper. A pressure compensating device () subjects fluid in a fluid passageway in the roller bearing () to a fluid pressure functionally related to subsea pressure. The tubing injector may be used for injecting the coiled tubing subsea into a wellhead or into another flowline.

A spool for carrying continuous pipe or coiled tubing for a coiled tubing injector is dropped into a stand at a site and coupled to a rotary power source. The stand includes two axles, on either side of the spool, and a drive plate. The spool includes on each side a supporting hub with slot that allows the axle to slide into the hub and the slot to be closed. At the same time, a coupling member on the drive plate slides into a mating contact with a complementary coupling member on the spool. Thus, the spool is mounted and coupled to a rotary power source with comparative ease and quickness, facilitating use of multiple spools for both transportation and operation at the well site.

Reel spool and stand assembly for coiled tubing injector system

A coiled tubing injector includes two chains mounted for continuous, opposing rotation and aligned to grip between the continuous tubing. Behind a portion of each chain is a straight skate that presses gripper elements on the chain against the tubing as it passes between the chains. The skate includes a beam. Rollers are mounted on carriers, and the carriers slide into slots formed on the beam. A resilient pad is placed between the carriers and the beam. The gripper elements roll over the rollers as they are being pressed against the continuous tubing. Dimensional variations in gripper elements, rollers, and the roller carriers that may otherwise cause grippers to be out of alignment are accommodated by compression of the pad. Furthermore, the last roller at each end of each skate is mounted for pivoting against a spring in order to deflect as gripper elements turn into, or out of, alignment with the skate.

A coiled tubing injector has a transmission with reduction gear trains having two rotary power outputs for driving each of the injector's two chains, and one or more rotary power inputs located on the same side of the transmission as the rotary drive outputs.

Coiled tubing injector

An automated fueling facility allows untrained persons to safely dispense homogeneous phase liquid methane from a cryogenic storage tank into a motor vehicle. The fueling facility automatically maintains pressure on the liquid methane within a predetermined safe operating range using methane gas trapped in the cryogenic storage tank. The pressure on the liquid methane is at least set equal to a set pressure equal to the sum of the saturation pressure of the liquid methane plus an additional amount to help to ensure that it remains in a fully saturated condition after exposure to any pressure losses as the fluid enters the pump. A pump is cooled by placing it in the storage tank and circulating liquid methane through the pump and back into the storage tank. A dispenser, including nozzle for connecting to a motor vehicle, is cooled by circulating liquid through the nozzle and back to the storage tank through a receptacle on the dispenser to which the nozzle is connected. No dispensing of liquid methane into a motor vehicle tank is allowed to begin without the pressure of the liquid methane being within the operating range and the pump and nozzle pre-cooled. No additional pressure is built in the storage tank than is necessary to bring the pressure of the liquid methane to the set pressure.

Liquid methane fueling facility

An automated fueling facility allows untrained persons to safely dispense homogenous phase liquid methane from a cryogenic storage tank into a motor vehicle. A pump is cooled by placing it in the storage tank and circulating liquid methane through the pump and back into the storage tank. A dispenser, including nozzle for connecting to a motor vehicle, is cooled by circulating liquid through the nozzle and back to the storage tank through a receptacle on the dispenser to which the nozzle is connected. No dispensing of liquid methane into a motor vehicle tank is allowed to begin without the pressure of the liquid methane being within the operating range and the pump and nozzle pre-cooled. No additional pressure is built in the storage tank than is necessary to bring the pressure of the liquid methane to the set pressure.

Liquified natural gas fueling facility

In a combined liquid natural gas and compressed natural gas fueling station, liquid natural gas is stored in a cryogenic tank and dispensed to vehicles on demand. Compressed natural gas is produced on demand from the liquid natural gas by a high-efficiency pump and vaporizer system and dispensed directly to vehicles or stored for later dispensing. For greater efficiency, the pump and vaporizer system is powered by combustion of natural gas, including gas bled off to relieve pressure from the cryogenic tank.

Liquid natural gas and compressed natural gas total fueling system

An LNG refueling facility includes a nozzle for mating with the receptacle on a motor vehicle to deliver a flow of LNG to the vehicle's tank. The nozzle is supplied with a flow of dry gas to purge moisture-laden air from around surfaces which mate with the receptacle to prevent freezing of moisture on the mating surfaces when the nozzle turns very cold. The nozzle also includes a boot enclosing mechanical linkages for latching the nozzle to the receptacle. Dry gas is supplied to the interior of the boot to displace air from around the mechanical linkages and thereby prevent moisture from freezing onto the mechanical linkages.

Apparatus and method of preventing ice accumulation on coupling valves

A cryogenic fluid pumping and vaporization system utilizes a heat engine to drive a cryogenic fluid pump, a coolant pump, a lube oil pump and a dynamometer, the cryogenic fluid pump and the coolant pump being driven through a hydraulic drive system, while the lube oil pump, hydraulic pump and the dynamometer are mechanically driven by the engine. Operation of the coolant pump and cryogenic fluid pump flows coolant fluid through a coolant flow circuit and flows cryogenic fluid through a cryogenic fluid flow circuit, each of these two circuits being operatively connected to a process fluid heat exchanger which transfers coolant heat to the cryogenic fluid to vaporize it. Heat from the hydraulic drive system and a lube oil flow circuit associated with the lube oil pump is transferred to the coolant flow circuit via suitable heat exchangers interposed therein. Exhaust gas heat generated by the engine is also transferred to the coolant through an exhaust gas heat exchanger. The dynamometer is connected in parallel with the coolant flow circuit to receive a selectively variable throughflow of coolant to thereby selectively vary its load on the engine and selectively vary the total heat transferred from the engine to the coolant. Heat generated within the dynamometer is transferred directly to the coolant, and the dynamometer load may be varied without altering the cryogenic fluid pumping load borne by the engine.
