High availability airflow management system for use in electronic equipment

An electronic component (,) includes an electronic equipment enclosure (,), a plurality of electronic devices (,) inside the enclosure, air movers (,) capable of cooling the electronic devices, and a separate barometric vane dampers (,) adjacent to each of the air movers. The electronic component includes N&plus;1 air movers where N is a minimum number of air movers required to cool the enclosure. Additionally, each of the barometric vanes has at least one stop to limit its movement. Furthermore, the barometric vanes are contoured to direct air flow within the electronic equipment enclosure and are closeable by gravity when the air movers are stationary.

Electronic component, method of cooling, and damper therefor

A power supply includes a turn on circuit which coordinates turn on of all paralleled power supplies supplying power to an electronic system such as a computer system. Upon detecting that its input voltage is sufficient to turn on, the power supply waits for a delay period long enough to ensure readiness of any of the paralleled power supplies and then determines that it can start independently. Upon detecting bus voltage sufficient to ensure that another power supply has turned on, the power supply determines that another power supply has turned on. If either condition is determined, the power supply turns on and begins supplying power to the computer system. As a result, the first power supply to turn on will be detected by the other power supplies, and the other power supplies will turn on immediately thereafter.

A backplane system provides a terminator assembly that mounts along an axis that is parallel to a plane of the backplane. The backplane system has modular backplanes connected to a removable terminator assembly. Connectors coupled the backplanes to the terminator assembly and each other.

A radio frequency interference (RFI) gasket (10) to be used with a chassis (36) having slot panels for receiving electronic assembly boards therein wherein the RFI gasket comprises a metal bar (12) dimensioned to fit within slots of the the chassis and a metallic spring clip (14) that is contiguous with the metal bar and makes electrical contact therewith. The spring clip is compressed against the metal bar as electronic assembly boards are installed into the chassis to such that the RFI gasket makes electrical contact between the the chassis and the assembly board to inhibit RFI radiation.

Radio frequency interference gasket

A ground plane interconnection system using multiple connector contacts interconnects ground planes between backplanes, between circuit boards or between backplanes and circuit boards. When a column or a portion of the column of contacts is allocated to the ground plane interconnect, the ground plane interconnects within the acceptable operational impedance range. These contacts behave as a plane in the direction of interest in a backplane system.

A cable connector or jumper for providing alternating current between adjacent electrical modules comprises a first head member having a set of recessed prongs, a second head member having a set of recessed mating apertures, and a semi-rigid, tubular connecting member. The connecting member incorporates a ferrule of magnetic material for reducing RF emissions. The connecting member is sufficiently rigid to permit same to be manually grasped for insertion and removal of the head members into corresponding connectors on adjacent electrical modules, while the connecting member is sufficiently flexible to permit the head members to be moved relative to one another in order to facilitate their insertion into and removal from the module connectors.

Inter-module semi-rigid cable connector and configuration of modules

A number of modules mechanically and electrically connect to each other to form an interconnecting module system. A latching mechanism connects each of the modules together. There is a backplane in each of the modules. The backplanes are interconnected When the modules are interconnected to each other. In addition, the modules can be stacked on top of each other and on top of a base. The base provides stability and support for the stack of modules.

Interconnecting module system

A disk drive shock mount is provided which attenuates shocks and vibrations to a disk drive (1, FIG. 1). The mount comprises a cradle 20 which is affixed to the disk drive housing, and a mounting plate 10 which may be used to suitably secure the disk drive assembly 1 to the next higher level of assembly. Flexible, compressible vibration isolators 50 of rubber or plastic are used to couple the cradle to the mounting plate. Rigid pins 70 on the cradle mate with grommet-enclosed apertures 60, 61 in the mounting plate to limit the degrees of motion permitted between the cradle and the mounting plate.
