A VDSL splitter device adapted to receive a multi-frequency signal that includes a POTS signal portion and a VDSL signal portion and outputs separate POTS and VDSL signals. The VDSL splitter device includes an input port that receives the multi-frequency signal, a POTS output port, and a VDSL output port. The VDSL splitter also includes a POTS signal conditioning network electrically connected to the input port and the POTS output port. The POTS signal conditioning network receives the multi-frequency signal from the input port and outputs the POTS signal at the POTS output port. The VDSL splitter device also includes a VDSL signal conditioning network electrically connected to the input port and the VDSL output port. The VDSL signal conditioning network includes a voltage blocker and a VDSL high-pass filter, and is adapted to receive the multi-frequency signal from the input port and outputs the VDSL signal at the VDSL output port.

An ultra-miniature magnetic device generally comprises a conductive winding and a magnetic core. The conductive winding includes an upper conductor and a lower conductor. The magnetic core is of an elongate rectangular or oval shape having two elongate sections and two short sections. The lower conductor is preferably positioned below the elongate sections of the magnetic core while the upper conductor is preferably positioned above the elongate sections of the magnetic core. The lower and upper conductors are electrically connected by conducting via structures that are formed in sequential steps using semiconductor processing technology. The result is a coil winding around the elongate sections, with the short sections being preferably free of windings. The process provides an advantage of avoiding shorting between the via structures and the magnetic core caused by overetching when etching the via holes.

A passive, highly efficient, low noise adapter device includes a balun and noise reduction circuitry uniquely configured to converting an unbalanced signal line on a 50 ohm signal line to a balanced signal on a 100 ohm transmission line or vice versa. The device facilitates the use of commercially available and accepted test equipment for accurate transmission measurements on balanced twisted pairs of cables and connectors. A typical utilization includes an adapter device connected between the 100 ohm twisted pair cable and suitable test equipment such as a network analyzer and/or a signal generator for determining losses in the telephone wire and connectors.

Disclosed is a passive, highly efficient, low noise coupling device that includes a balun and noise reduction circuitry uniquely configured for converting an unbalanced video signal on a 75 ohm transmission line or connector to a balanced signal on a 100 ohm transmission line or connector and vice versa. The device efficiently allows use of a 100 ohm unshielded twisted pair, such as a conventional telephone cable, for multiplex transmission of video signals or the like in the frequency range of 50 to 500 megahertz. The preferred embodiment has a circuit board with a 75 ohm unbalanced side and a 100 ohm balanced side separated by a balun having a toroid core with a very high permeability. A common mode choke for noise rejection is inserted in the balanced side. A common mode toroid shunt on the device's balanced side provides further noise reduction. An isolation transformer in the device can provide personnel protection and eliminate ground loops. Circuit board traces connecting the components are impedance matched to either the balanced side or the unbalanced side as appropriate.

A multi level splitter device suitable for CATV distribution systems utilizes transformers with bi-multiplefilar windings as well as impedance matching transformers selectively placed and port isolation techniques to provide excellent performance throughout a very broad frequency range. The device may utilize a standard JEDEC surface mount package, for example a 84 pin PLCC package which allows isolation of each of the output port terminals intermediate grounded terminals minimizing output line to output line crosstalk. Further, output line isolation is provided by use of resistors across adjacent 'split' output lines.
