The present invention relates to graft polyols employing a t-amyl peroxy compound as free radical initiator. The novel graft polyols are made by polymerizing at least one monomer in a polyol composition in the presence of a free radical initiator and preferably a chain transfer agent. The resulting graft polyols are in turn useful in reactions with polyisocyanates to make polyurethane products.

Macromers for preparation of graft polymer polyol dispersions

Shipping/display units include a number of vertically stacked product-containing trays supporting upright dividers which maintain separation between the product containers. When in its shipping condition, the bottom-most tray is nestably received within a pallet skirt which rests upon a conventional wooden shipping pallet. Each tray is provided with an individual corner support member which extends between an adjacent pair of vertically separated trays. A corner post extending the entire height of the unit is positioned at each corner of the unit to provide additional structural support during shipping. To further enhance the aesthetic appeal of the display the pallet skirt may be reverse folded so as to lie against respective vertical sides of the pallet and is maintained in that position by cooperating locking tongues and slits formed in the pallet skirt side walls. A display insert having a pair of opposed feet and a central tongue element may be positioned on an edge of the uppermost tray/divider assembly so as to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the unit when in its display condition.

Macromers for use in preparing stable, low viscosity graft polymer polyols of high solids content are disclosed. These macromers are easily made in high yield with short cycle times, and may be used to prepare graft dispersions containing amine based polyols.

Graft polymer dispersions in a polyol are prepared by a continuous process employing in situ free radical polymerization of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer in a polyol containing from about 0.001 to 0.09 mole of induced unsaturation per mole of polyol in the presence of an effective amount of a chain transfer agent. Products prepared by this process have uniform viscosity with resulting product uniformity. Polyurethane foams incorporating flame retardants prepared from these dispersions readily pass the California No. 117 Flame Test.

The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of stable graft polymer dispersions having improved dispersibility by a free radical polymerization of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer under conditions of no-reflux or alternatively under conditions that do not return the evaporated monomer to the dispersion. Polyurethane foams may be prepared from these polymer dispersions.

Stable graft polymer dispersions are prepared employing in situ free radical polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomer or monomers in an amine-terminated polyoxyalkylene polyether polymer. These dispersions are useful in the preparation of polyurethane foams which have improved tensile strength, elongation, load deflection and tear strength properties.

Graft polymer dispersions are prepared by the in situ polymerization in the presence of a free radical catalyst of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer or mixture of monomers in a liquid polyol employing as the free radical catalyst a liquid unsymmetrically-substituted azo compound having a melting point less than 30.degree. C. and a ten hour half-life between 55.degree. C. and 100.degree. C. The dispersions are low viscous liquids which may be advantageously employed in the preparation of polyurethane foams.

Finely-divided dispersed solids are prepared by the emulsion polymerization in the presence of a free radical catalyst of a major amount of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer or mixture of monomers and a minor amount of a hydroxy-terminated organic compound having from one to eight hydroxyl groups, an oxyethylene content of from about 15 to 80 weight percent, a hydroxyl equivalent weight of from 250 to 10,000 and containing a polymerizable carbon-to-carbon double bond. The resulting polymeric solids are particularly useful in the preparation of reinforced polymer compositions.
