A foot supporting orthotic having parallel, separately flexing rays extending forwardly from an arch region which in use underlies the arch of a wearer's foot. The rays are bowed by spring-like elastomers and facilitate the shock absorbing and adaptation stages of walking.

Dynamic orthotic

A method and apparatus for performing arcuate osteotomies wherein a wedge-shaped correction is filed rather than sawed from the bone. A combined saw and file for use in the method has a curved blade with teeth along a longitudinal edge for making an arcuate cut in the direction perpendicular to the edge, and file teeth on one or both of its curved faces for filing out the correction. The effective width of the the blade determines the tip width of the correction; the thickness of the blade determines the width of the arcuate kerf; and the radius of curvature of the blade determines the radius of the arcuate cut. Also disclosed is cutting guide for guiding a saw/file or other cutting implement to make the arcuate cut and the correction.

Osteotomy saw/file, cutting guide and method

A bone saw guide apparatus and method for positioning sequential saw cuts facilitates the cutting of a wedge of bone, in the correction of an angular bone deformity. An arcuate saw blade having a shaft which is parallel to its cutting edge provides greater blade strength and better control of the cut.

Arcuate osteotomy blade, blade guide, and cutting method

A prosthetic bone or tooth implant device is disclosed which includes a generally U-shaped cap portion (69) with an upper convex surface. The implant used in bone prosthesis after an osteotomy is performed by an elongated osteotome (30) having a blade comprised of at least one curved portion (38) and at least one flange portion (42). The underside of the U-shaped cap conforms identically to the shape of the osteotome blade, so that when the device is implanted its lower surface will lay perfectly flush against the surface of the bone which has been cut. The implant is affixed to the bone by means of a pin (62) connected at one end to the underside of the implant and which is inserted at its other end into the medullary canal (55) within the bone which has been severed. In order to permit the implant to be used even when the osteotomy is angular the pin is connected to the cap of the implant by means of a ball (67) and socket joint, a universal hinge or an integral hinge which utilizes its natural flexibility to swing the cap to a variety of implant positions. The pin is made of compressible material in order that it can be inserted within the canal and expand after insertion to secure the implant to the bone. A plurality of pin structures are disclosed which provide different methods of securing the implant to the osteotomy.
