One preferred embodiment of the present invention provides a system and method for evaluating the performance of a network interface sub-system of an inter-messaging network of voice mail systems. This preferred embodiment includes a network query device that connects to the inter-messaging network and requests a test data file to be retrieved from a particular voice mail network interface sub-system in the inter-messaging network. The requests for the test data file are generated according to user command. Accordingly, the performance of a network interface sub-system in the inter-messaging network, as represented by the result of the request attempt, is evaluated according to a defined level of performance, such as a preferred time limit. Other systems and methods are also provided.

Evaluating performance of a voice mail sub-system in an inter-messaging network

One preferred embodiment of the present invention provides a system and method for evaluating the performance of an inter-messaging network of voice mail systems. This preferred embodiment includes an evaluation test unit that connects to the inter-messaging network and requests a test data file to be retrieved from a particular voice mail system in the inter-messaging network. The requests for the test data file are generated according to a schedule of operation so that the requests are repeated within a defined time span. Accordingly, the performance of the inter-messaging network, as represented by the result of the request attempt, is evaluated according to a defined level of performance, such as a preferred time limit. Other systems and methods are also provided.

Evaluating performance of a voice mail system in an inter-messaging network

One preferred embodiment of the present invention provides a system and method for checking the performance of sub-systems in an inter-messaging network of voice mail systems. This preferred embodiment includes a network diagnostic device that connects to the inter-messaging network and requests a test data file to be retrieved from all the voice mail sub-systems in the inter-messaging network. The requests for the test data file are generated without user interaction. Accordingly, the performance of the inter-messaging network in its entirety, as represented by the results of the request attempts, is assessed according to a defined level of performance, such as a preferred time limit. Other systems and methods are also provided.

Diagnostic checking of an inter-messaging network

Methods and systems are presented for changing the association of a mailbox from a first domain to a second domain in a messaging system that includes mailboxes organized into domains. Advantageously, the change is effected with only minor interruption to messaging services to the subscriber of the mailbox. With respect to a mailbox record including fields for mailbox name and for a list of other names, the new mailbox name is added to the list of other names and new corresponding names are added also to the list of other names. A change is made to the domain in the record for the mailbox in the table of incoming trunk configuration. After the change in the table, the new mailbox name and the new corresponding names are removed from the list of other names in the mailbox record. The old mailbox name is changed to the new mailbox name in the mailbox name field of the mailbox record. The old mailbox name is added to the list of other names. The domain is changed in the record for the mailbox in the table of integration configuration. The old mailbox name then is deleted from the list of other names.
