An electrical pressure sensing switch for a pressure cooker comprises a plunger slidably and sealingly mounted in a lid of a cooking vessel. The plunger is moved towards one end of a pivoted lever when pressure rises inside the vessel. The other end of the lever is positioned to press down against an operating arm. When the force applied by the plunger as a result of higher pressures in the vessel is sufficient to overcome bias of a spring, the arm is moved down by the lever. This results in operation of micro-switches. Embodiments of the invention are mechanically simple and accommodate wide tolerances without loss of calibration, while necessary electrical parts are separated or separable from the lid to facilitate cleaning and washing.

Electrical pressure sensing switch

A blender 30 includes a base housing 32, a jar mount 34 which nests on the housing, and a jar 36, which is threadedly attached to the jar mount. A motor 66 is contained within the base housing 32 and drives a blending implement 74 located within the base of the jar 36. The jar mount 34 rests on a plurality of compliant pads 88 to support the jar mount and the jar 36 during operation of the blender 30. An extension 42 of the base housing 32 provides an enclosure for a switch assembly 68 which includes four switches 96 for facilitating external control of the operation of the motor 66 and the blender 30. Each of four compliant actuator pads 54 extend through respective openings 148 in a cover 50 of the extension 42 and engage a respective actuator block 158 which is mounted on a pivotable panel 152. When any of the actuator pads 54 is depressed by an operator, a respective one of the panels 152 is pivoted to move a section of the panel into actuating engagement with a switch plunger 100 of a respective one of the switches 96 to operate the motor 66 and, thereby, the blender 30.

Mixing appliance

An electric heating element having a central conductor and an outer metallic sheath is welded to a base of vessel to provide a heating container, for hot water in a domestic appliance for example. In order to carry out the welding, the vessel is heated up by an induction heater to a certain temperature and the temperature of the actual contacting welding surfaces raised above the certain temperature to a fusing temperature by applying and controlling electric power supplied to the conductor while the heating element is held firmly in position against the base.

Method of welding a heating element to a vessel for forming a heating

A stand mixer comprising a drive shaft, a transmission shaft, and a coupling. The drive shaft is rotatably held in a first housing. The transmission shaft is held in a second housing. The second housing is pivotally mounted to the first housing so that the first housing may be pivoted relative to the second housing. The coupling connects the drive shaft to the transmission shaft when the first housing is in an operating position. The coupling includes a self aligning coupling. The self aligning coupling comprises a first member, a second member and a spring. The first member is inserted into and intermeshed with the second member to transfer power between the drive shaft and the transmission shaft. When the first housing is pivoted to the operating position the spring biases the first member against the second member to intermesh the first member with the second member.

Stand mixer with shaft coupling

A stand mixer comprising a lower housing with a support rotatably mounted thereto and a mixing bowl removably connected to the support. Between the mixing bowl and the support is a self-locking connection. The self-locking connection comprises the support having an aperture and the mixing bowl having a member fixably connected to the mixing bowl. The member fixedly connected to the mixing bowl is adapted to be inserted into the aperture of the support. The member has an engagement surface formed therein. The support has a cam surface. Rotation of the support drives the cam surface upon the engagement surface of the member. This rotates the member in unison with the support and cams down the mixing bowl against the support to lock the mixing bowl to the support.

A vacuum coffee maker has a starved electric heating arrangement having a solid body providing a reservoir. The chamber is covered by a circular lid that prevents flow of steam directly vertically up a tube from the chamber. At the end of a normal heating cycle, the temperature of the body rises rapidly and power supplied to a heating element is automatically turned off under the control of a thermostat. The heating arrangement is used without alteration (e.g. to the setting of the thermostat) to keep-warm hot coffee in a lower container after the end of the normal heating coffee-making cycle. The effect of having the lid is that during a keep-warm function, the reservoir is generally starved of liquid because any liquid entering the reservoir is immediately evaporated and this restricts flow of more liquid into the reservoir and hence starves the reservoir.

Vacuum coffee maker

A breadmaker having a container sealingly mounted to the top of a housing and an electric heating element is mounted to an outside surface. A paddle is mounted at the bottom of the container and driven in use by an electric motor. Because the container is sealed in place in the housing, no foodstuff can enter the housing. Because the heating of the container is direct, less heat is wasted. The paddle may be lifted at the end of the baking cycle to aid removal of the cooled bread loaf. A hinged lid that is partially opened by a spring biassed plunger at the end of each baking cycle allows for ventilation of the container.

Breadmaker

A single loaf breadmaker has a container sealingly mounted to the top of a housing and an electric heating element is mounted to an outside surface. A paddle is mounted at the bottom of the container and driven in use by an electric motor . Because the container is sealed in place in the housing and because the heating of the container is direct, no foodstuff can enter the housing and much less heat is wasted. Means are described for lifting the paddle at the end of backing to aid removal of each cooked bread loaf.

An expresso coffee maker includes a steam outlet valve for supplying steam to froth milk for making cappuccino coffee. A valve member automatically closes off a tube when a water level in a water compartment falls below a low level. This closing off completes each expresso making cycle and ensures that sufficient water is retained, and sealed off, inside the compartment to sustain a supply of steam for frothing the milk.
