An orthodontic bone anchor comprising an anchor plate, a tube affixed to the emerging end of the anchor plate and, a rod slidable within the tube, a groove formed in the rod, a plate attached to the tube at one end and having a V-shaped notch at the other end, and the V-shaped notch adapted to cooperate with the groove to prevent movement of the rod with respect to the tube.

Orthodontic bone anchor

An orthodontic implant comprised of one or two bony attachments, and, if there are two, one is smaller and affixed to the opposite end of the emerging portion, while the other utilizes a screw placed through an aperture. The smaller affixed portion is a tapered tac with the opposite emerging portion receiving an 'O' ring removable cap onto which an adjustable rod can be contoured as needed after the implant has been affixed to bone.

Orthodontic attachment means according to this invention comprises a ram which is an integral part of a plunger assembly, the ram being movable by means of a spring, a slotted cylinder rotatably attached to the ram, an aperture formed in the slotted cylinder, slot formed in the slotted cylinder and extending from the aperture, a base interconnected to a patient's teeth, a sphere integrally joined to the base by means of a neck, the sphere being dimensionally configured so as to be passable through the aperture, and the neck being slidable within the slot so as to interconnect the base and the slotted cylinder.

Orthodontic attachment means

That portion of any bony anchor which protrudes from the bone can have placed on it a head to which a connector assembly is attached. The free end of this connector assembly attaches to a bar and rigidly holds the bar in place. On the bar, a variety of attachments are placed thereby extending the influence of the bony anchor to other, more ideal locations from which to apply forces to move teeth in all directions.

Bony anchor extender

A rigid buccally positioned bar, placed above the upper teeth and stabilized anteriorly by a connector to a protruding bony anchor carries a variety of force systems to facilitate tooth/teeth movement in all three spatial directions. The bar can be stabilized posteriorly by insertion into tubes on the molar bands. Various attachments connect different teeth to the buccally positioned bar for exerting the desired forces on the teeth.

Bony anchor positioner

A subperiosteal bone anchor has a base that is thin and moldable so the base can be conformed to bone where it is to be placed. The base is formed as a plurality of arms, and leaves with central holes in the leaves so screws can urge the leaves against the bone. The edges of the base are scalloped, and very thin to facilitate bone overgrowth. Central to the arms is a stem extending up, and having a variety of connection mechanisms for attachment of orthodontic appliances.

An orthodontic appliance has two telescoping cylinders having springs therein to urge the cylinders apart. The outer cylinder is then slidably inserted into a third cylinder. The outer ends of the cylinders are attached to a patient's teeth so the springs exert a force on the teeth when the spring-urged cylinders contact the end of the third cylinder. The cylinders may be separable so the springs can be exchanged, or may be permanently fixed together. The attachments allow universal motion so the lower jaw can move to the full extent of the normal jaw without binding or destroying the appliance.

Resiliently expandable orthodontic device

An orthodontic appliance has a cylinder with a spring urged plunger therein. The spring is compressed when the plunger is moved into the cylinder; and, one end of the cylinder and the extending end of the plunger are attached between the teeth to be moved. The attachments to the teeth allow universal motion so the law is free to move in all directions anatomically possible. To extend between the upper and lower teeth, the cylinder can be slidable within a second cylinder. The second cylinder allows greater extension of the appliance while maintaining the integrity of the appliance.

A removable orthodontic appliance that includes an upper plate and a lower plate, the plates being unattached to each other but contacting each other on portions of their surfaces called indexing planes, which are oriented vertically. The tendency of the lower jaw to retract is opposed by the indexing planes of the upper plate which are located on the molars. The indexing planes of the upper plate bear against the indexing planes of the lower plate and thereby maintain the jaw in a jutting-forward position while not interfering with the opening and closing of the jaw that is necessary for normal eating, speaking and sleeping. The appliance of the present invention can be worn 24 hours a day by the patient and operates continuously while in place to maintain the condyles in desired positions.
