A low-profile electronic circuit breaker includes first and second electrical branches coupled to respective first and second load terminals. The electronic circuit breaker also includes an electronic processing circuit configured to monitor an electrical condition in the first and second electrical branches. The electronic circuit breaker is packaged in a housing sized to occupy a standard single-pole breaker panelboard location. In some embodiments, the electronic circuit breaker has no load neutral terminals associated with the first and second load terminals. Methods of assembling an electronic circuit breaker are provided, as are other system and method aspects.

Low-profile electronic circuit breakers, systems, and methods

An electric vehicle charging apparatus is disclosed. The electric vehicle charging apparatus has a housing body that is configurable to provide a number of electrical connection options, such as bottom and rear corded options as well as direct wired options. In another aspect, a mounting installation of the electric vehicle charging apparatus is provided. In yet another aspect, a housing body having a first front cavity and a second front cavity is provided. An inner cover covers the second front cavity, and a maximum amperage set switch is operable to set a maximum charge amperage for the electric vehicle charging apparatus. Methods of configuring the electric vehicle charging apparatus are provided, as are other aspects.

Embodiments provide tripping unit of a circuit breaker. The tripping unit includes a magnet, a bimetal member extending alongside of the magnet, and an armature pivotable on the magnet, wherein the armature having an engagement portion engageable with the bimetal member at a moveable end of the bimetal member. Circuit breakers including triggering mechanisms and tripping units are also disclosed, as are low-profile, electronic circuit breakers including a maximum transverse width (Wt) limited to occupy only a single standard breaker panelboard location. An electric vehicle charging apparatus is disclosed. The electric vehicle charging apparatus has a housing having a body, and a light guide assembly adapted to display a status of the electric vehicle charging apparatus. The light guide assembly generates and displays one or more colors, flashing lights, or combinations thereof on a light exit region of the light guide. In another aspect, a locking hinged lid configuration of the electric vehicle charging apparatus is provided. In yet another aspect, a mechanical control panel including lighted status indicators on the lid is provided. In another aspect, the electric vehicle charging apparatus has one or more low voltage terminals contained in a first front cavity under the lid, whereas high voltage components are provided in a separate second front cavity. Methods of operating the electric vehicle charging apparatus are provided, as are other aspects.

Status indicating electric vehicle charging station, lightguide assembly and methods

An electric vehicle recharging station that can be readily incorporated into existing building electrical distribution systems during retrofit or new construction. The system has at least one enclosure and a vehicle charging connector. A circuit interrupter has line terminals for connection to respective first and second phases of the distribution system. A contactor relay has first and second phases coupled to the respective circuit interrupter and electric vehicle charging connector phases and separable contacts for each phase, for selective connection of electric power to the charging connector. A recharger controller is coupled to the contactor, for causing selective separation and closing of the separable contacts, so that electrical power is transferred to the electric vehicle. The recharging station system may also incorporate electric rate metering functions as well as communication capability from the controller to a remote controller. A human machine interface may be coupled to the controller.

In accordance with the invention a configurable electrical distribution system is provided for selectively connecting an electrical power source to load devices. The system comprises a panel and a plurality of switching devices mounted in the panel, each switching device for connection in a branch circuit to a load device for selectively delivering electrical power to the load device. A panel controller is mounted in the panel and is operatively connected to each of the switching devices. The panel controller comprises a programmed controller for controlling operation of the switching devices and a panel memory connected to the programmed controller storing configuration data relating to operation of the switching devices. A port is provided for operatively connecting an external memory device to the programmed controller. A user interface is operatively associated with the programmed controller to transfer configuration data between the external memory device and the panel memory.

Offline configuration using USB download in an integrated power distribution system

An electrical distribution system is provided for selectively connecting an electrical power source to load devices comprising a plurality of panelboards each having a plurality of load circuit positions. A plurality of pairs of circuit breakers and switching devices are each mounted in one of the load circuit positions. Each pair is electrically connected between an electrical power source and a load device for selectively delivering electrical power to load devices. An I/O controller is mounted in the panelboard for controlling operation of the switching devices. The I/O controller includes a communication circuit. A system controller is connected to each I/O controller communication circuit and comprises a programmed controller for commanding operation of the I/O controllers.

A power distribution apparatus for distributing electrical power includes circuit breaker modules and remote operated devices mounted separately in a panel. The devices may be relays, circuit breakers, meters, dimmers or other devices for controlling a circuit. An I/O controller board is connected to the remote operated devices and controls those devices through a data rail. A control module may interface with the I/O controller board and may also interface with other I/O controller boards and with one or more networks. The I/O controller board is mounted in the subfeed breaker region of the panelboard, at an end of the panelboard opposite the main breaker region. The controller board may include connection and status features that are accessible through the deadfront.

Panel layout for an integrated power distribution system

An electrical contact assembly resists blow-open under conditions of increased current flow. The contact assembly includes parallel conducting surfaces on fixed and moveable conductors that generate forces biasing the contacts together under current flow conditions. The assembly also includes a magnetic armature and yoke that exert a magnetic force to resist movement of the contacts toward the open position. Current flowing through both the fixed and moveable conductors contribute to the magnetic force. A spring may additionally bias the contacts to the closed position. The contact assembly may be used in remote-controlled circuit breaker applications.

Design and method for keeping electrical contacts closed during short circuits

An electrical contact assembly includes a magnetic latch solenoid for actuating a moveable contact of a contact pair. The magnetic latch solenoid includes a magnet that latches the contact assembly in an open position, and a coil that moves an armature to the latched position under current in one polarity, and disrupts the permanent magnet field to release the armature from the latched position under current in a reverse polarity. A spring biases the contacts to the closed position. The spring is separate from the magnetic latch solenoid. The contact assembly may also include a printed circuit board for providing pulses to the coil to operate the assembly. The contact assembly is part of a remote operated circuit breaker assembly.

Maglatch mechanism for use in lighting control pod

A power distribution apparatus for distributing electrical power includes circuit breaker modules and remote operated devices mounted separately in a panel. The devices may be relays, circuit breakers, meters, dimmers or other devices for controlling a circuit. An I/O controller board is connected to the remote operated devices and controls those devices through a data rail. A control module may interface with the I/O controller board and may also interface with other I/O controller boards and with one or more networks. A serial communications line connects the I/O interface board with a number of remote operated devices. A separate select line runs from each remote operated device to the I/O controller board. To operate a particular device, the I/O controller board asserts the select line of that device, causing the device to listen for messages on the serial line. The relay executes commands contained in a message only of the select line for that device is asserted.
