Methods and materials for the selective capture and storage of preselected materials from gas streams using metal organic framework (MOF) materials are described. In various embodiments preselected target material gases could include noble gasses such as Kr, Xe, Rn, Arultramicro to mesopore frameworks for selective separation and storage of noble gases, other gasses such as Ior other particular isotopes either naturally occurring or man-made, or another preselected gas capture material such as a target material for legal, regulatory or treaty compliance, or a preselected material from a particular process such as a cleaning or etching agent from semiconducting or microelectronic manufacture, or a portion of an anesthetic gas such as nitrous oxide, isoflurane, sevoflurane or a fluorinated ethers.

Disclosed herein is a ceramic part, gas sensor, and method for making the gas sensor. The ceramic part comprises: an insulating layer affixed to a substrate wherein the insulating layer comprising AlOparticles; and a glass comprising about 45 to about 69 mole percent SiO, 0 to about 9 mole percent BO, 0 to about 26 mole percent AlO, 0 and 25 mole percent SrO, and about 10 to about 26 mole percent REO, where REOis selected from the group consisting of YO, three valent rare earth oxides, and combinations comprising at least one of the foregoing. In one embodiment of a ceramic part, a gas sensor comprises: an electrolyte layer having disposed on opposite sides thereof a first electrode and a second electrode; and an insulating layer that is in intimate contact with the second electrode, wherein the insulating layer comprises alumina and frit. The method of making the gas sensor comprises: disposing a first electrode and a second electrode on opposite sides of an electrolyte layer; forming an insulating layer comprising alumina and frit; disposing the insulating layer adjacent to the second electrode to form a green sensor; and heating the green sensor to a temperature sufficient to sinter the electrolyte layer and the insulating layer.

The present invention is a glass-ceramic material and method of making useful for joining a solid ceramic component and at least one other solid component. The material is a blend of M1-M2-M3, wherein M1 is BaO, SrO, CaO, MgO, or combinations thereof, M2 is Al O , present in the blend in an amount from 2 to 15 mol %, M3 is SiO with up to 50 mol % B O that substantially matches a coefficient of thermal expansion of the solid electrolyte. According to the present invention, a series of glass ceramics in the M1-Al O -M3 system can be used to join or seal both tubular and planar solid oxide fuel cells, oxygen electrolyzers, and membrane reactors for the production of syngas, commodity chemicals and other products.

The present invention is a glass-ceramic material and method of making useful for joining at least two solid ceramic parts. The seal is a blend of M O&mdash;M O &mdash;SiO that substantially matches a coefficient of thermal expansion of the solid electrolyte. According to the present invention, a series of glass ceramics in the M O&mdash;M O &mdash;SiO system can be used to join or seal both tubular and planar ceramic solid oxide fuel cells, oxygen electrolyzers, and membrane reactors for the production of syngas, commodity chemicals and other products.
