In one embodiment, a system is configured to generate a time reference where the system includes a bi-directional loop configured to have a first propagation speed in a first direction and a second propagation speed in a second direction, wherein the first propagation speed is substantially equal to the second propagation speed. In one embodiment, the system further includes a plurality of system elements coupled to the bi-directional loop, wherein each respective system element of the plurality of system elements is configured to determine a time reference common to each as an average arrival time at the respective system element of a first signal transmitted in the first direction over the bi-directional loop and a second signal transmitted in the second direction over the bi-directional loop.

Apparatus for and method of generating a time reference

Telemetry transmitting apparatus and a method are provided for reception and transmission of heart related electrical signals, such as electrocardiogram (EKG) and/or cardiac pacemaker signals, from a plurality of electrodes coupled to the body of a medical patient. A receiving facility of the apparatus receives a plurality of analog signals representing at least the EKG signals. An output signal representing the EKG signals is formed and transmitted, via a wireless coupling, to a telemetry receiver. An analog output port is provided on the telemetry transmitting apparatus. The analog output port is also coupled to the receiving facility. A plurality of output signals representing the EKG signals is provided to the analog output port of the telemetry transmitting apparatus. The analog output port may be coupled to buffers at the input terminals of the apparatus. Alternatively, the output port may receive processed signals from the amplifier in the telemetry transmitter that are gain adjusted to emulate the unprocessed voltage signals of the EKG electrodes and then combined with a digital pace pulse signal so that the output signals include pacemaker pulse information.

Apparatus and method for providing dual output signals in a telemetry

A patient monitoring system utilizes a transmitter associated with each patient. The transmitter is worn by a patient and includes sensors operative to monitor vital signs of the patient. The transmitter transmits an allocated RF frequency which is particularly associated with that patient. A series of antennas are incorporated in a building, each antenna having its own signature signal. As the patient moves throughout the building, the antennas pick up the signals from the patient's transmitter and combines the antenna signature signal with the transmitted patient signal. This combined signal is then analyzed at a central location to determine the exact location of the patient due to the antenna signature signal which is modulated on the transmitted patient signal. Transmitted patient data is also decoded at the central station to provide a signal indicative of the vital signs of the patient.
