System and method for analyzing a graphical program. A graphical program is displayed on a display. A semantic edit operation is performed on the graphical program in response to user input. The semantic edit operation is performed by a first process. Semantic analysis of the graphical program is performed by a second process in response to performing the semantic edit operation, where the second process is asynchronous with respect to the first process. Results from the semantic analysis of the graphical program are displayed in response to completion of the semantic analysis. If during the semantic analysis, another semantic edit operation is performed on the graphical program, the semantic analysis may be preemptively terminated and re-initiated. Displaying results from the semantic analysis of the graphical program may then include displaying results from the re-initiated semantic analysis of the graphical program in response to completion of the re-initiated semantic analysis.

System and method for performing program-related operations over a network via a web browser. A network connection is established between a server computer and a client computer over a network. A universal resource identifier (URI) is sent from the client computer to the server computer over the network, where the URI indicates a program, e.g., a graphical program (GP), or at least a portion of a graphical program interactive development environment (GPIDE), e.g., a graphical program editor, an execution engine, a static or dynamic analyzer, and/or compiler. The at least a portion of the GPIDE is received from the server computer over the network in response to the URI, and executed in a web browser of the client computer to perform some specified functionality with respect to the GP.

System and method for error handling in a graphical program. An error handling structure is displayed in a graphical program. The error handling structure includes a first frame configured to contain graphical program code for which error handling is to be provided. At least a portion of the graphical program is included in the first frame in response to user input specifying the at least a portion of the graphical program. During execution of the graphical program, the error handling structure aborts execution of the at least a portion of the graphical program in the first frame in response to detection of an unhandled error in the at least a portion of the graphical program in the first frame and continues execution of the graphical program.

A system and method for deploying a hardware configuration with a computer program. The program may perform an instrumentation, measurement/control, industrial automation, or machine vision function, or other type of function utilizing hardware devices, and the behavior of the program may depend on various aspects of the hardware configuration of the computer system. An installation bundle that includes configuration information related to the hardware devices with which the program interacts may be automatically created and used to deploy the program on a new computer system. The installation bundle may include program instructions operable to install the program on the new computer system and automatically modify the hardware configuration of the new computer system so that the program will execute correctly.
