In an example, there is disclosed a computing apparatus for performing binary classification on a corpus of objects, having: one or more logic elements providing a classification engine to: access a training set comprising a plurality of binary classified objects, each object including one or more features, and each object designated as belonging to the class or not belonging to the class; build a model comprising a probability that each of the one or more features implies that an inspected object belongs to the class; access a particular object from the corpus; analyze the particular object to identify one or more identified features, the identified features selected form the one or more features; assign the particular object a composite score comprising a sum of the identified features; and designate the particular object as belonging to the class if and only if the composite score is above a threshold.

There is disclosed in an example a computing apparatus for assigning an entropy score to a document to be added to a corpus in a first temporal state having a first corpus entropy, having one or more logic elements, including at least one hardware logic element, providing a classification engine to: receive the document to be added to the corpus; add the document to the corpus, creating a second temporal state of the corpus; compute a second corpus entropy for the second temporal state, based at least in part on a morphism; and assign the document a gentropy score based at least in part on a difference between the first corpus entropy and the second corpus entropy.

An apparatus and method for conserving power on a mobile device through motion awareness. The method includes a motion model that receives location information from one or more receivers and an accelerometer. The motion model determines whether the mobile device is in motion based on the received information. If the mobile device is in motion, a scanning rate for the one or more receivers is determined based on a velocity vector, the velocity vector being determined from the received information; the determined scanning rate is sent to the one or more receivers to enable them to operate at the determined scanning rate; and the process is repeated. If the mobile device is not in motion, the scanning operations for the one or more receivers are halted while the mobile device is stationary; scanning operations for the one or more receivers are resumed when an indication that the mobile device is moving again is received from the accelerometer; and the process is repeated.

Method and apparatus for conserving power on a mobile device through motion awareness

A system and method for signaling emergency responses. A mobile device receives proximity location information from at least one location identification beacon. A user of the mobile device dials an emergency telephone number when an emergency occurs. Dialing the emergency telephone number enables the proximity location information to be transmitted to an emergency call center. Upon receipt of the proximity location information by the emergency call center, a globally unique identifier within the proximity location information is extracted and mapped to a database to obtain a precise location of the emergency, thereby enabling a dispatcher to better instruct an emergency response team as to the location of the emergency without requiring the user to provide the location.

System and method for signaling emergency responses

A method and system are disclosed for optimally viewing a three dimensional object in a three dimensional graphical space. Each object in the three dimensional space has associated an optimal vantage point. In one embodiment, the optimal vantage point allows a position and orientation for the object or for the vantage point to be calculated, where when the object or vantage point is moved to the position and orientation where the object may be optimally viewed.

Method and system for altering object views in three dimensions

An apparatus for displaying miniaturized graphical representations (i.e., thumbnails) of documents for alternative viewing selection by a user. A current document is displayed on a display panel of a graphical user interface (GUI) for viewing and/or manipulation by a user. The GUI further includes a plurality of selection panels that collectively form a border around the current document of the display panel. Disposed on these selection panels are a plurality of thumbnails of other documents that are deemed relevant to the current document by a predetermined, user-defined criterion. Selection of one of these thumbnails conveniently displays the document represented by such thumbnail to be displayed on the display panel in lieu of the current document. Advantageously, documents deemed relevant to a currently displayed document are easily accessible to the user.

Method and apparatus for displaying miniaturized graphical representations of documents for alternative viewing selection

A method and apparatus for organizing two and/or three-dimensional computer applications on a display in a three-dimensional viewing perspective. A two-dimensional bitmap is created for each respective computer application and applied to a three-dimensional geometry (i.e., primitive). In one embodiment, the three-dimensional geometry is a cube and each respective computer application is mapped onto a respective surface of the cube. The computer user has the ability to manipulate the orientation of the cube, via a computer mouse, for example, to view the different surfaces, and, thus, different computer applications mapped thereon. The user is further given the capability to manipulate or interact with each computer application on each respective surface of the cube. In another embodiment, two or more cubes could be employed for displaying the various computer applications running on the computer's processor. The user could also allocate a particular group or category of applications to each respective cube to accomplish different tasks.

Conveying a relationship between two objects in a scene is accomplished by selecting source and destination ends of an imaginary line between the objects in the scene, a source object being located at the source end, a destination object being located at the destination end. An image representing the destination object may be displayed near the source end of the imaginary line. The image may be animated to the location of the destination object along the imaginary line. A relationship indicator, such as a line, may also be displayed between the source object and the image as the image is animated to the destination end.

Method of conveying a relationship between objects in a scene

A method and apparatus to enhance the visualization of a 3D graphics scene. A first 3D view of the graphics scene is generated from a first viewing position and a second 3D view of the graphics scene is generated from a second viewing position. The two views are then displayed alternately to produce a &ldquo;shaking&rdquo; effect to enhance the 3D visualization.

Method and apparatus for automated dynamics of three-dimensional graphics scenes for enhanced 3D visualization

A system manipulates an object in a three-dimensional graphical scene that includes a graphical camera in a first position and a first orientation. The system receives an object manipulation indication and identifies an improved viewing location of the camera for manipulation the object. The system then moves the camera to a second position and second orientation based on the improved viewing location. Finally, the system receives an end of object manipulation indication and moves the camera back to the first position and first location.

Managing windows in a graphical user interface by receiving a signal indicating a gesture from a user, capturing pixels of a window, applying the captured pixels as a texture to a display object in a three dimensional window, and animating the display object to a first location in the three dimensional window corresponding to the window, when the gesture indicates deactivating the window. Further actions include moving the display object to a second location in the three dimensional window, displaying the window over the display object, and hiding the display object, when the gesture indicates activating the window.

Method and apparatus for managing windows in three dimensions in a two dimensional windowing system

Information objects are compared according to user a specified distance measure and the magnitude of this distance measure is reported to a user by producing audio tones representative of the magnitude of the distance measure between the information objects. In one embodiment, a user interface for computers, including audio feedback in which a substantially fixed pitch audio tone is associated with a first selected object, and a second audio tone, associated with a second selected object, varies in pitch as the second object is moved relative to the first object. User configurable audio tone parameters allow the use of any function relating variations in audio tone to a distance measure.

Method and apparatus for audibly communicating comparison information to a user

A computer-implemented method and apparatus for transmitting information with a video signal. At least one client application creates a message to be transmitted to a receiver. The client application transmits the message to a data encoder and the encoder receives the message and other messages from other client applications. The encoder transforms the message and the other messages into packets and multiplexes them into a bitstream to be encoded with a video programming signal. The multiplexing is performed according to priorities assigned to the at least one client application and the other client applications. The encoder transmits the bitstream to a video encoder to transmit the bitstream with the video programming signal in order to be received by a decoder. The decoder can then decode the information from the video signal and transmit the information to at least one decoder client application. The client applications may include: a status application which transmits a status information (e.g. time references) at regular intervals; a program application which transmits descriptive information of the video programming synchronized with the video signal (e.g. program markers and/or program text, such as closed-captions and/or subtitles); and a non-program application. The status application may have a highest priority, the program application has a next highest of priority, and the non-programming signal has a lowest priority.

Video indexing protocol

The present invention discloses an electronic filing system for automatically organizing information into a number of storage elements or folders. The storage elements are folders arranged hierarchically. The information is stored into the storage elements based on its contents. Each storage element is associated by a set of profiles and a set of constraint expressions. The constraint expressions are quantitative measurements of the profiles. The information is scanned and its features are extracted and compared with the profiles. If the features match the storage element's profiles, the features are quantitatively evaluated to produce information expressions. If the information expressions are within the constraints specified by the constraint expressions, the information is stored into the storage element. The profiles and the constraint expressions can be adjusted to reflect the changes in the user's interests.
