The systems and methods disclosed relate to arc resistant medium voltage motor control centers for bypass and synch transfer. A drive control system comprising: a variable frequency drive cabinet comprising a variable frequency drive; a power supply line; at least one motor control cabinet having a top portion and a bottom portion, wherein the at least one motor control cabinet is arc resistant, wherein the at least one motor control cabinet comprises: a medium voltage fused bypass controller in the top portion; a medium voltage non-fused transfer controller in the bottom portion; a reactor compartment, wherein the reactor compartment is arc resistant; wherein the variable frequency drive is coupled to the power supply line and the non-fused transfer controller, and the fused bypass controller is coupled to the power supply line.

Arc resistant drive with bypass and synch transfer

In accordance with presently disclosed embodiments, an arc resistant exhaust and intake for medium and high voltage switchgear is provided. In one embodiment, an arc resistant drive system may comprise: a drive cabinet comprising a vent; and an arc resistant shutter plate assembly coupled to the drive cabinet and aligned adjacent to the vent, wherein the arc resistant shutter plate assembly comprises a plurality of shutter plates configured to automatically transition from an open position to a closed position when air pressure inside the drive cabinet exceeds a predetermined value, such that the shutter plates substantially restrict air flow through the vent in the closed position.

Arc resistant exhaust and intake for drives and switchgear

In accordance with presently disclosed embodiments, a system and method for controlling the temperature of medium-voltage power electronics assemblies (i.e., medium-voltage drives) is provided. The disclosed system generally includes a medium-voltage drive having one or more cabinets with power electronics devices disposed therein, one or more fans for circulating air through the cabinet to cool the devices, and one or more space heaters disposed in the cabinet. The drive also features temperature sensors used to measure various temperatures of the drive, a controller communicatively coupled to the sensors, and one or more variable frequency drives (VFD) for the fans. The controller may receive measurements regarding the ambient and power device temperatures and apply controls to vary the space heater power and fan speed in response to environmental changes.

Environmental control for medium-voltage drive

The presently disclosed embodiments are directed to an improved mechanical arrangement of a drawout power module system that prevents outside contaminants from being deposited on the electronic components in the power module. A need exists for an improved mechanical arrangement of a power module and cabinet that would prevent the contaminants from outside of the cabinet from being deposited on the electronic components in the power module. To that end, the outdoor drive may include a cabinet with an air intake and an air outlet located on said cabinet and in fluid communication with an interior space of said cabinet, wherein said cabinet is configured to receive a power module within said interior space. The power module may include an environmentally sealable chamber where outside air can enter and exit only said environmentally sealable chamber of said power module.

Self-cooled drawout power module with isolated thermosiphon heat exchanger

A drive system for driving a multi-phase motor (such as a three-phase AC motor) or other load. Where a transformer is used, the transformer may have a disconnected wye configuration on the secondary side. The system may also utilize the average or other combination of DC bus voltages of inverters for each load phase, to provide feedback control.

Multilevel regeneration drive system

An 18n-pulse rectifier for AC drive systems having a separate DC bus for each output phase is described, where n=any positive integer. The rectifier uses three separate phase rectifiers, one for each output phase of a transformer, each comprised of n six-pulse diode bridges connected in series or parallel. Each phase rectifier may be supplied with n unique sets of phase inputs from a transformer secondary winding. In some configurations, the n sets of inputs provided to each rectifier are separated by 60/n degrees of phase (when n is greater than 1), while the corresponding inputs to neighboring rectifiers are separated by 20/n degrees of phase. In a 36-pulse example, the phase offsets for the inputs provided to the rectifiers may be &#x2212;25&#xb0; and +5&#xb0; from the transformer primary winding (for the first rectifier), &#x2212;15&#xb0; and +15&#xb0; from the primary winding (for the second rectifier) and &#x2212;5&#xb0; and +25&#xb0; from the primary winding (for the third rectifier). Each set of inputs may include three lines of in-phase current, and may be coupled to one of the six-pulse diode bridges.

Multi-pulse rectifier for AC drive systems having separate DC bus per output phase

A medium voltage variable frequency drive having a 2-high controller configuration with a dual bus system is described. The drive control system includes at least one motor control cabinet housing a fused medium voltage bypass controller, a non-fused transfer controller positioned above the fused medium voltage bypass controller, an extendable output bus coupled to the non-fused medium voltage transfer controller, and an extendable supply bus coupled to the fused medium voltage bypass controller. The drive control system further includes a variable frequency drive cabinet housing a variable frequency drive. The variable frequency drive is coupled to the extendable output bus and a power supply line. The power supply line may be further coupled to the extendable supply bus. The drive control system includes at least one cabling transition cabinet housing cabling between the at least one motor control cabinet, the power supply line, and the variable frequency drive.

Bypass and synchronous transfer arrangement for a medium voltage drive control system

A transformer controller for a drive isolation transformer is provided. The transformer may include multiple sets of primary windings as an input, and the transformer controller may include multiple branches coupled between a power source and the transformer. Each branch may be coupled to its own primary winding on the transformer, and may include one or more components, such as an isolation switch, a fuse, contactor, or circuit breaker. One or more of the branches may include a pre-charge reactor to limit inrush or capacitor charging current occurring during startup, and may include a pre-charge contactor to remove the pre-charge reactor from the circuit when the startup process has reached a certain level (e.g., the charging or inrush current has dissipated, or a DC bus reaches a charged state).

Multi-pulse rectifier for AC drive systems having separate DC bus per output phase and multiple isolation transformers

A fluidic cooling assembly for removing heat from electrical equipment includes operational diversity features in which multiple fluid moving devices are mounted in a single housing. The assembly may include a first fluid baffle and a second fluid baffle disposed within the housing so as to define a first and a second control compartment. A first fan and a second fan may be disposed within the first control compartment and the second control compartment, respectively. A first sensor and a second sensor may be configured to sense changes in operation of the first fluid moving device and the second fluid moving device, respectively; and a controller unit configured for receiving signals generated by the first sensor and the second sensor go as to the transmit control signals to the first fan and the second fan.

Apparatus for continuous cooling of electrical powered equipment

A motor controller includes an isolation switch having a main power supply terminal and a first bolted pressure contact and a load receptacle having a second bolted pressure contact. The motor controller also includes a drawout unit having a line terminal and a load terminal, the line terminal for engaging the first bolted pressure contact when the drawout unit is in an inserted position and the load terminal for engaging the second bolted pressure contact when the drawout unit is in the inserted position. The drawout unit rests on a drawer which is in turn supported by a pair of sliding rails. A current transformer generates a sensing signal for monitoring purposes. The components are arranged in a compact design which requires significantly less space than conventional designs.
