A CDMA communication system includes a signal processor which encodes voice and nonvoice signals into data at various rates, e.g. data rates of 8 kbps, 16 kbps, 32 kbps, or 64 kbps as I and Q signals. The signal processor selects a specific data rate depending upon the type of signal, or in response to a set data rate. When the signal is received and demodulated, the baseband signal is at the chip level. Both the I and Q components of the signal are despread using the conjugate of the pn sequence used during spreading, returning the signal to the symbol level. Carrier offset correction is performed at the symbol level. A lower overall processing speed is therefore required.

Pre-phase error correction

A method and apparatus for protecting and authenticating wirelessly transmitted digital information using numerous techniques. The apparatus may be a wireless orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) communication system, a base station, a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), a transmitter, a receiver and/or an integrated circuit (IC). The wireless OFDM communication system includes a transmitter which steganographically embeds digital information in an OFDM communication signal and wirelessly transmits the OFDM communication signal. The system further includes a receiver which receives the OFDM communication signal and extracts the steganographically embedded digital information from the received OFDM communication signal.

Apparatus and method for correlating a received communication of a known sequence over a wireless channel through the use of a finite impulse response (FIR) filter having a small number of taps to reduce hardware requirement by as much as one-half that of conventional techniques while obtaining amplitude degradation which is no worse than experienced when employing conventional techniques.

Apparatus and method of searching for known sequences

A unified dual-mode global system for mobile communication (GSM)/universal mobile telecommunication systems (UMTS) clock and a transceiver employing the unified GSM/UMTS clock are disclosed. A reference clock generates a reference clock signal and a local oscillator (LO) generates a LO signal based on the reference clock signal. A frequency divider selectively generates either a GSM clock signal or a UMTS clock signal by converting a frequency of the LO signal by a predetermined factor. Both the GSM clock signal and the UMTS clock signal are generated based on the common reference clock signal. The reference clock signal frequency may be a GSM fundamental frequency or a UMTS fundamental frequency. An interpolator and/or a decimator may be used for matching frequencies of UMTS baseband signal and the UMTS clock signal or frequencies of GSM baseband signal and the GSM clock signal.

A Node-B/base station has an access burst detector. The access burst detector comprises at least one antenna for receiving signals from users and a pool of reconfigurable correlators. Each correlator correlates an inputted access burst code at an inputted code phase with an inputted antenna output. An antenna controller selectively couples any output of the at least one antenna to an input of any of the correlators. A code controller provides to an input of each correlator an access burst code. The code controller controls the inputted code phase of each controller. A sorter/post processor sorts output energy levels of the correlators.

A receiver or an integrated circuit (IC) incorporated therein includes a fast Fourier transform (FFT)-based (or hybrid FFT-based) sliding window block level equalizer (BLE) for generating equalized samples. The BLE includes a noise power estimator, first and second channel estimators, an FFT-based chip level equalizer (CLEQ) and a channel monitor unit. The noise power estimator generates a noise power estimate based on two diverse sample data streams. The channel estimators generate respective channel estimates based on the sample data streams. The channel monitor unit generates a first channel monitor signal including truncated channel estimate vectors based on the channel estimates, and a second channel monitor signal which indicates an approximate rate of change of the truncated channel estimate vectors. The FFT-based CLEQ generates the equalized samples based on the noise power estimate, one-block samples of the first and second sample data streams, the channel estimates and the monitor signals.

A spread spectrum method and apparatus for protecting and authenticating wirelessly transmitted digital information using numerous techniques. The apparatus may be a wireless code division multiple access (CDMA) communication system, a base station, a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), a transmitter, a receiver and/or an integrated circuit (IC). The wireless CDMA communication system includes a transmitter which steganographically embeds digital information in a CDMA communication signal and wirelessly transmits the CDMA communication signal. The system further includes a receiver which receives the CDMA communication signal and extracts the steganographically embedded digital information from the received CDMA communication signal.

Code division multiple access (CDMA) method and apparatus for protecting and authenticating wirelessly transmitted digital information

A method for controlling the communications of a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) in a wireless network using presence and situation information begins by generating presence and situation information pertaining to the WTRU. The presence and situation data is stored and, subsequently, retrieved upon receipt of a communication at the WTRU. The communication settings of the WTRU are adjusted by using the presence and situation information.

At least one semiconductor die is equipped with at least one RF transmitter, RF receiver and/or RF transceiver. This enables one or more RF links to be established with the die, enabling communications with the die to be effected with reduced or no wirebond or other physical connections. In another aspect of the invention, a source die with RF communication capability communicates with a target die by establishing an RF link with an intermediate RF device. The intermediate RF device has a physical connection, either directly to the target die, or to the substrate which they share, which allows the source die to communicate with the target die. The source and target dies may be on the same or on different substrates. This enables the use of multiple semiconductor dies and substrates in a manner which reduces the required physical connections between them.

A Node-B/base station receiver comprises at least one antenna for receiving signals. Each finger of a pool of reconfigurable Rake fingers recovers a multipath component of a user and is assigned a code of the user, a code phase of the multipath component and an antenna of the at least one antenna. An antenna/Rake finger pool interface provides each finger of the Rake pool an output of the antenna assigned to that Rake finger. A combiner combines the recovered multipath components for a user to produce data of the user.

A spread spectrum communication station simultaneously receives multiple data channels on the same frequency spectrum and at data rates which may individually vary. A determination is made of signal quality based on signal to noise ratio (SNR) the channels by comparing a forward error corrected sample with a corresponding delayed sample. The comparison of the delayed despread data with the decoded data provides the indication of SNR.

Method for determining signal quality of simultaneously received multiple channels of data

A Node-B/base station has a path searcher and at least one antenna for receiving signals from users. The path searcher comprises a set of correlators. Each correlator correlates an inputted user code with an inputted antenna output of the at least one antenna. An antenna controller selectively couples any output of the at least one antenna to an input of each correlator of the set of correlators. A code phase controller selects a user code for input into the set of correlators. Each delay of a series of delays delays the selected user code by a predetermined amount and each correlator of the set of correlators receives a different code phase delay of the selected user code. A sorter and path selector sorts the output energy levels of each correlator of the sets of correlators and produces a path profile for a user based on the sorted output energy levels.

Path searcher using reconfigurable correlator sets

A modem interface transfers data between a high data rate interface and a wireless interface. The modem interface has a plurality of parallel data highways. Each data highway has frames with time slots for transferring data. The plurality of highways outputs data to the high data rate interface and the wireless interface in selected time slots. At least one of the data highways has an input configured to receive data from the high data rate interface in selected time slots. At least one of the data highways has an input configured to receive data from the wireless interface in selected time slots. A processor controls the transfer of data between the plurality of highways.

Code division multiple access modem interface

A method for adjusting the operating parameters of a wireless device for use in a wireless communication network begins by entering and storing situation settings. When a communication is received at the network for the wireless device, the presence of the wireless device is determined. The situation settings are applied based upon the presence of the wireless device. The wireless device is informed of the communication via the applied situation settings.
