In accordance with one embodiment, an electrical contact has a mating end and a mounting end. The electrical contact includes an electrically conductive base, and a multi-layered coating disposed on an outer surface of the base at the mating end. The multi-layered coating can include a metallic layer of a noble metal or alloy thereat: a layer of anti-tarnish material disposed on the metallic layer, and a lubricant layer disposed on the layer of anti-tarnish material, the lubricant effective to seal at least some wear regions created in the layer of anti-tarnish material due to micromotion of the mating end in use.

In accordance with one embodiment, an electrical contact has a mating end and a mounting end. The electrical contact includes an electrically conductive base, and a multi-layered coating disposed on an outer surface of the base at the mating end. In accordance with one embodiment, an electrical connector includes a housing that supports a plurality of electrical contacts. Each electrical contact defines a mating end and an opposing mounting end, and a plurality of mounting terminals disposed at the mounting end. The mounting terminals of each contact are arranged in at least one column extending along a longitudinal direction, such that each column is spaced along a lateral direction, and the mounting terminals of adjacent contacts are longitudinally offset.

A preferred embodiment of an electrical connector includes a housing, a wafer positioned adjacent the housing and being movable in relation to the housing, a first contact extending through the housing, a first fusible element mounted on an end of the first contact for securing the first contact to the housing and to a first location on a substrate, a second contact extending through the housing and the wafer and being movable in relation to the housing, and a second fusible element mounted on an end of the second contact for securing the second contact to a second location on the substrate so that the second contact can deflect substantially independent of the housing and the first contact in response to relative movement between the housing and the second location on the substrate.

Electrical connector with provisions to reduce thermally-induced stresses

A press-fit bus-bar for distributing power along a backplane or a printed circuit board includes a number of flat bus bar conductors fabricated from an electrically conductive material. Each bus bar conductor is separated from adjacent bus bar conductors by layers of an insulating material. A number of electrically conductive press-fit tails protrude from one edge of each bus bar conductor. When the laminated bus bar conductors and insulating material layers are placed in a housing which is then filled with a hardened epoxy resin, the press-fit tails protrude from the surface of that epoxy resin. These protruding tails can be press-fit in a backplane(s) or printed circuit board(s) for the purpose of supplying these backplane(s) or printed circuit board(s) with electric power.
