The present invention relates to a method of lubricating the interface between a supporting ring and inner surface of a tire for use with a rim for a tire having two beads, comprising the step of providing a lubricant on a surface of said supporting ring, said lubricant comprising at least 60 percent by weight of polydimethylsiloxane, from about 7 to about 13 weight percent of amorphous silica, and from about 7 to about 13 weight percent of hydroxy-terminated dimethyl siloxane.

Lubrication for tread supporting ring for use with a rim for a tire having two beads

A pneumatic tire and an innerliner for use in a pneumatic tire are provided by the invention. The innerliner comprises a multilayer structure including a barrier layer and an adhesive layer. The barrier is a blend of high chlorine content chlorinated polyethylene elastomer and low chlorine-content chlorinated polyethylene elastomer. The adhesive can include a nitrile rubber composition or an ultra high molecular weight elastomer. The present invention more specifically discloses a pneumatic tire comprising a carcass and an innerliner, said innerliner comprising a multilayer structure including a barrier layer and an adhesive layer, the barrier layer comprising a blend of high chlorine content chlorinated polyethylene elastomer and low chlorine content chlorinated polyethylene elastomer, the high chlorine content chlorinated polyethylene elastomer having a chlorine content of between about 35 percent to about 45 percent and the low chlorine content chlorinated polyethylene polymer having a chlorine content of between about 25 percent to about 35 percent, wherein the high chlorine content polyethylene has a chlorine content which is at least 5 percentage points higher that the chlorine content of the low chlorine content polyethylene; the adhesive layer comprising a polymer composition for adhering the barrier layer to said rubber carcass; and wherein the innerliner provides an oxygen permeability of less than 250 cc-mil/100 in -atm-day at 65&deg; C. and good cold flexibility at &minus;40&deg; C.

Pneumatic tire and innerliner and method for manufacture

A pendulum device is used to test the rolling resistance of a material. The device includes a rolling unit for contact with the material being tested, an assembly for initiating pendulum motion of the device, and measuring the amplitude of the pendulum motion over time. The rate of decrease of the amplitude of the pendulum motion is a measure of the rolling resistance of the material.

This invention discloses a rubber composition having a high modulus and excellent processability which is comprised of a blend of (1) at least one elastomer selected from the group consisting of polybutadiene rubber, styrene-butadiene rubber, synthetic polyisoprene rubber, natural rubber, isoprene-butadiene rubber, isoprene-butadiene-styrene rubber, nitrile rubber, carboxylated nitrile rubber, and EPDM rubber, (2) at least one thermotropic liquid crystalline polymer containing an aliphatic spacer, wherein the thermotropic liquid crystalline polymer exhibits no apparent crystalline to nematic transition, wherein the thermotropic liquid crystalline polymer exhibits nematic order above its glass transition temperature, and wherein the glass transition temperature of the thermotropic liquid crystalline polymer is within the range of 20.degree. C. to 180.degree. C., and (3) carbon black.

Rubber composition

It is often desirable to increase the modulus of rubbers which are utilized in manufacturing a wide variety of articles. For instance, carbon black is frequently added to rubbers to increase the modulus thereof. However, the incorporation of fillers, such as carbon black, into rubbers typically results in the rubber being more difficult to process. This invention discloses the incorporation of certain thermotropic liquid crystalline polymers into rubbers in order to improve the processability of the rubber and also to increase the modulus thereof. This invention specifically discloses a rubber composition having a high modulus and excellent processability which is comprised of a blend of (1) at least one elastomer, and (2) from about 2 phr to about 40 phr of at least one thermotropic liquid crystalline polymer containing an aliphatic spacer which has a crystalline to nematic transition at a temperature which is within the range of about 110.degree. C. to about 180.degree. C.

New .alpha.-phenyl-glycidyl-ether polyolefin macromonomers and copolymer of these macromonomers and ring opening polymerizable monomers have been prepared. The new copolymers based on these macromonomers form a unique set of copolymers having graft type blocks of a hydrophobic polyolefin dangling from a back bone composed of a ring opening polymerizable monomer.
