An apparatus for weaving leno fabric on a loom including a support pivotally mounted on a loom, and carrying a plurality of ground thread blades arranged side by side in a row and spaced apart to define guide spaces therebetween for ground threads. A leno guide blade divides each guide space into first and second guide slots, each leno guide blade having a leno guide eye through which a leno thread is guided, adjacent ground thread blades projecting beyond the terminal end of the leno guide blade located therebetween to define a ground thread cross-over space. The ground thread blades and leno guide blades are arranged such that pivotal movement of the support in a first rotary direction causes the ground threads to move relatively along one of the first or second guide slots towards and into the crossover spaces such that lateral movement of the ground threads relative to respective leno guide blades, from one side to the other thereof, causes closing of one guide slot and opening of the other, whereby pivotal movement of the support in a rotary direction opposite the first rotary direction causes movement of the ground threads relative to the ground thread blades out of the crossover spaces and relatively along the other of the first or second guide slots away from the crossover spaces.

Apparatus and method for weaving leno fabric

A yarn carrier () for presenting a selected yarn () to a pair of gripper jaws (). The yarn carrier () includes a yarn guide passageway () defining a path along which the selected yarn () is longitudinally guided. The passageway () has a yarn inlet end, a yarn outlet end and adjacent to the yarn outlet end yarn guides () to constrain the tail of the yarn (Y) against lateral deflection in a longitudinal direction of the yarn carrier (). The yarn guides () are depressible on contact with open gripper jaws () to enable the gripper jaws () to grip the yarn tail (Y).

A loom for producing a pile fabric, in particular a carpet, the loom including a reed having a plurality of reed fingers, each adjacent pair of reed fingers defining therebetween a reed dent, the reed being movable in a forwards direction to a forward most position and movable in a rearward direction to a rearward most position, a plurality of loop forming lances, each lance having a body extending through a dent in the reed, each lance having upper and lower yarn deflectors for deflecting loop forming warp yarn to one side or the other side of the lance in dependence on whether said warp yarn is travelling from above to below the lance or vice versa, each lance further including a guide formation engageable with both opposed reed fingers in said reed for determining the warp wise position of side upper and lower warp yarn deflectors relative to said opposed reed fingers when the reed is at its rearmost position, said guide formations being located outside the dents of said reed when the reed is at its forwardmost position to permit loop forming yarn to pass between each lance () and its associated dent () in the reed ().

A reed assembly for leno weaving, the reed assembly including upper and lower reed frame members between which a plurality of dent fingers extend, each pair of neighbouring dent fingers being spaced apart to define a dent space for a crossing-over warp yarn, a yarn guide finger co-operating with each dent space for guiding a crossed-over warp yarn therethrough, each yarn guide finger extending from one of the frame members and having a terminal end spaced from the other frame member so as to divide the co-operating dent space into a pair of cross-over dent spaces extending between said terminal end and said one frame member and being defined between facing sides of the guide finger and the pair of neighbouring dent fingers and cross-over transfer region extending between said terminal end and said other frame member and being located between opposed faces of the pair of neighbouring dent fingers.

Leno weaving

A pile loop forming assembly for looms for reliably transferring yarn from one side of the lance to the other in order for the yarn to be wrapped around the lance to form a loop. The loops may be cut by a blade as the loops advance and ride over the blade edge. The loops are formed by yarns passing through reed fingers wherein lances move the yarn from one side of the reed finger to the other. The lances are attached to a bar, which moves linearly in alternate directions so as to wag the lances to either side of the reed space. A heald moves the yarn up or down to selectively engage or disengage from the lances. A guide formation on a portion of the reed space helps deflect the yarn from one side of the lance to the other. The reed can pivot between a beat-up position and a weft insert position. As the reed moves to the beat-up position it engages the newly formed pile loop on the lance and pushes it to the fell.

A mechanism for a gripper Axminster loom is disclosed which includes a plurality of yarn carriers each of which is movable to any one of a plurality of predetermined positions. Each carrier guides a plurality of tuft yarn and is arranged to present one of the yarns to a gripper when the carrier is located at a corresponding one of the predetermined positions. The mechanism includes a plurality of independently controllable rotary drive motors, each of which is connected to drive an associated carrier for selectively moving the associated carrier to a selected one of the predetermined positions.

A loom for weaving pile fabric is disclosed, including a plurality of healds for shedding warp yarns, a pile-forming reed through which said warp yarns are guided and a plurality of pile loop forming lances extending in the warp direction so that each pile-forming lance passes through an associated dent in the read, each dent being defined between a pair of spaced apart dent fingers. Each loop forming lance and at least one dent finger of said pair of dent fingers cooperate to guide lateral displacement of the loop forming lance relative to said associated dent. A first group of healds are threaded with ground forming warp yarns and the first group of healds and the loop forming lances are arranged such that the upper and lower shedding positions of said ground forming warp yarns are located below the loop forming lances. A second group of healds are threaded with loop forming pile yarns, the second group of healds and said loop forming glances being arranged such that each loop forming yarn may be moved from a lower position located beneath an associated loop forming lance to an upper position located above said associated loop forming lance. A guide system is provided for guiding movement of each loop forming warp yarn such that during movement from its lower position to its upper position it passes by one side of said associated lance and during movement from its upper position to its lower position it passes by the opposite side of said associated lance to form a loop held upon said associated lance.

Apparatus and method for loading tufts into a tuft carrier

A heald assembly for leno weaving, the assembly including first and second heald frames each of which is adapted for slidable reception in heald guides of a weaving loom, at least one of the heald frames including a main frame and a sub-frame carrying a plurality of dents spaced in the weft direction of the one heald frame, the sub-frame being co-planar with the main frame and being movably mounted on the main frame for reciprocal movement in the weft direction.

A cam actuator for selectively moving cam elements axially between distinct operative positions in a circular knitting machine, the actuator including a series of adjacent pistions arranged along the axial line of displacement, and stop means for limiting the axial stroke of each piston in the direction of extension. Each piston co-operates with adjacent pistons in the series such that displacement of a given piston in the extend direction causes the remaining pistons located between the cam element and the given piston to be displaced in the extend direction by the stroke length undergone by the given piston.

Solenoid-controlled heald rod system

The metering device for metering the weft yarn of a loom comprises a metering roller which is disposed between a supply unit and a draw off unit and which, in metering operation, is wrapped around by the weft yarn and determines the weft yarn draw off speed. In the event of a weft yarn break, a new waft start is injected past the metering roller into a catching nozzle and by way of a deflector into a yarn accumulator. A brake terminates the injection step. While a draw off element applies tension to the yarn, the yarn is wrapped automatically and in a number of turns around the metering roller by being moved into a catching zone of a catcher, which is rotatable around the metering roller axis, through the agency of a relative movement between the injected weft yarn and the catcher. During one revolution of the catcher around the roller axis, the weft yarn is deposited on the metering roller in the form of a wrapping. After a number of wraps of weft yarn around the metering roller, a severing element parts off the remainder of the yarn moving towards the accumulator and the resulting new yarn tip is moved by the metering roller into a start position for the weaving cycle.

Rotatable thread catcher for weft metering device

A loom is provided with a closed path for the weft yarn from a yarn package to a picking nozzle. A first yarn guiding passage extends from a yarn clamp to a weft yarn storage device while a second yarn guiding passage extends from the storage device to the picking nozzle. Sensors are disposed along the path of the yarn in order to sense the presence or absence of a thread for searching/rethreading purposes. The second yarn guiding passage is articulated to the storage device and the picking nozzle in order to follow movements of the picking nozzles relative to a reed.
