Systems and methods for supplying low salinity injection water

A method includes producing a first blended low salinity injection water for injection into at least one injection well that penetrates a first region of an oil-bearing reservoir and producing a second blended low salinity injection water for injection into at least one injection well that penetrates a second region of an oil-bearing reservoir. The reservoir rock of the first and second regions has first and second rock compositions, respectively, that present different risks of formation damage. The first and second blended low salinity injection waters comprise variable amounts of nanofiltration permeate and reverse osmosis permeate. The compositions of the first and second blended low salinity injection waters are maintained within first and second predetermined operating envelopes, respectively, that balance improving enhanced oil recovery from the first and second regions while reducing formation damage upon injecting the first and second blended low salinity injection waters into the oil-bearing reservoir.

Method of controlling salinity of a low salinity injection water

An integrated system includes a desalination plant including a reverse osmosis (RO) array to produce an RO permeate blending stream and a nanofiltration (NF) array to produce an NF permeate blending stream. The integrated system also includes a blending system. Further, the integrated system includes a control unit. Still further, the integrated system includes an injection system for one or more injection wells that penetrate an oil-bearing layer of a reservoir. Moreover, the integrated system includes a production facility to separate fluids produced from one or more production wells that penetrate the oil-bearing layer of the reservoir and to deliver a produced water (PW) stream to the blending system. The blending system is configured to blend the RO permeate and NF permeate blending streams with the PW stream to produce a blended low salinity water stream. The control unit is configured to dynamically alter operation of the blending system to adjust amounts of at least one of the RO permeate blending stream and the NF permeate blending stream to maintain a composition of the blended low salinity water stream within a predetermined operating envelope.

Process of supplying water of controlled salinity

Process for producing an injection water for an oil reservoir by pressurizing water having a total dissolved solids content of 20,000 to 45,000 ppm and a sulfate concentration of 1,000 to 4,000 ppm to 350 to 1250 psi absolute; and dividing the water into first and second feeds for reverse osmosis (RO) and nanofiltration (NF) units respectively. The units are operated in single-pass, single-stage mode or single-pass, two-stage mode, the NF permeate has a pressure at least 5 psi higher than the RO permeate, and the recoveries of the RO and NF permeates are 35 to 75% and 35 to 60% by volume respectively. RO permeate and NF permeate are mixed in a ratio of 2:1 to 40:1 to provide injection water having a TDS content of 500 to 5,000 ppm, and a sulfate concentration of less than 7.5 ppm.

A method of recovering hydrocarbons from a porous subterranean hydrocarbon-bearing formation by: (a) reducing the salinity of a saline source water by reverse osmosis using a membrane having a first surface and a second surface by (i) feeding the saline source water to the first surface of the membrane, and (ii) removing treated water of reduced salinity from the second surface of the membrane; and (b) injecting the treated water into the formation; wherein the membrane is selectively permeable to water over dissolved solids such that when (i) the saline source water has a total dissolved solids content of at least 17,500 ppm, and (ii) the applied pressure across the membrane is greater than the osmotic pressure across the membrane and lies within the range 45 to 90 bar (4.5 to 9.0 M Pa), the total dissolved solids content of the treated water is in the range 500 to 5000 ppm.

A mechanical grouting and re-pointing device includes a closed pressure vessel for containing grouting or re-pointing material, an input to the pressure vessel for the supply thereto of compressed gas, and an outlet from the pressure vessel to which is attached a nozzle for directing outputted material to the joint to be filled. The device also includes a flow control valve for regulating the flow of compressed gas to the pressure vessel and, as a consequence, for controlling flow of material from the vessel through the nozzle. A manually operated air bleed valve mounted externally of the pressure vessel communicates with the interior of the vessel to control pressure within the vessel.
