A computer processing system includes a processor to operate in a first computing environment. The processor creates a generic application layer by scrubbing a new application layer within the computer processing system to remove objects associated with the new application layer and specific to the first computing environment. The processor further creates within the computer processing system a single composited layered image by merging the generic application layer with at least one other application layer having objects associated therewith.

Out of band layer scrubbing

Application layering is a technology that separates applications from an operating system image. In some cases, information inside an application layer needs to be modified when that layer is delivered to a computer to be executed correctly in a specific environment. Described is a technique to allow those operations to be defined and executed outside of the operating system that will be running the application layer, so that a single application layer can be delivered to heterogeneous end points without the need to take up additional computation on the guest machine it is being delivered to, to ensure application compatibility when applications reside in more than one layer, to install applications into a layer without knowledge of a specific platform, and to modify the image to provide the required drivers and services to support any platform.

A server includes a processor to execute a single generic composited layered image that includes an operating system layer and an application layer. A layering engine hooks into the user log-in process to capture a user identification of the user initiating the log-in process, and compares the user identification to a list of additional application layers that are to be available to different users based on their respective user identifications. The layering engine determines if at least one additional application layer is to be available to the user based on the compare, and creates a single user-specific composited layered image by mounting the at least one additional application layer to the single generic composited layered image if the at least one additional application layer is to be available to the user.

A tool for replacing rake tines, having inner and outer ends, of a rake wheel which includes a central disc-shaped support plate means and a peripheral rim spaced outwardly of the support plate means with the peripheral rim having a plurality of spaced-apart openings formed therein which receive the rake tines extending therethrough so that the outer ends of the rake tines are positioned outwardly of the peripheral rim, and means removably securing the inner ends of the rake tines to the support plate means. Concentric and eccentric exercising and training apparatus and method

In a storage system having a source storage system and target storage system, systems and methods maintain information from which a set of source data files stored on a storage system can be retrieved. In one embodiment, baseline images of one or more source data files are stored in target files of the target storage system. For a selected target storage time, locations in the source storage system where changes have been made since a previous target storage time are dynamically identified. Contents that occupy the locations are read and sent to the target storage system. The contents are stored in the target storage system together with associations of the contents with the locations.

Systems and methods for maintaining data files

The invention provides systems and methods for continuous back up of data stored on a computer network. To this end the systems of the invention include a synchronization process that replicates selected source data files data stored on the network and to create a corresponding set of replicated data files, called the target data files, that are stored on a back up server. This synchronization process builds a baseline data structure of target data files. In parallel to this synchronization process, the system includes a dynamic replication process that includes a plurality of agents, each of which monitors a portion of the source data files to detect and capture, at the byte-level, changes to the source data files. Each agent may record the changes to a respective journal file, and as the dynamic replication process detects that the journal files contain data, the journal files are transferred or copied to the back up server so that the captured changes can be written to the appropriate ones of the target data files.

Systems and methods for backing up data files

A system for backing up data files generates information from which those files can be recovered, and it sends that information to a back-up location. To determine what information to send, it generates summaries of those files from time to time and identifies changed locations by comparing the summaries with one another. As a consequence, the information it sends the back-up location can be limited to the identities and new contents of the locations thereby identified.
