Apparatus for recording eye movement. A light source has its rays directed toward the eye of a subject and a glass dome secured to spectacle frames worn by the subject. The primary and secondary glints reflected off the glass dome and eye cornea, respectively, are transmitted via mirrors, lenses and a fiber optic image guide to a video camera tube. The position of the glints on an XY axis is electronically determined and the information is fed to a computer which compares the data from the two glints and compensates for the head movement which corresponds to movement of the primary glint.

Eye movement recording apparatus

An ink supply system for supplying ink to the print head of an ink jet printer includes a pump arrangement having a pump outlet for supplying ink to the print head from a supply tank through a print head supply line. A closed container communicates with the pump outlet and the print head for holding a quantity of ink therein for providing a second flow of ink to the print head at a static pressure that increases linearly with time. A valve controllably actuated by a solenoid selectively directs a portion of the ink from the pump outlet to the closed container, gradually compressing the air therein as the container is filled. Ink is thereby supplied to the print head at a gradually increasing static pressure, facilitating initiation of production of jet drop streams by the print head.

Ink supply system for an ink jet printer

A portable paint spraying device for generating a paint spray by centrifugally impelling liquid paint from the edge of a vertically oriented spinning disc. The disc is driven by an electric motor which also drives a conveyor screw used to lift the paint upwardly from a reservoir or container through a vertically oriented pump tube and into a spray chamber in the sprayer housing. The pump tube has a horizontal portion at the upper end thereof terminating in a delivery orifice through which the liquid paint is discharged into a centrally located recess or well in the front face of the disc. The disc has a relatively large flat annular region surrounding the central well which is in turn surrounded by an outer peripheral angled flange or lip having a feathered edge. The spray dispersion pattern is defined by a vertically oriented spray discharge slot in the pump housing, a movable shutter between the spray discharge slot and disc, and a series of baffles within the spray chamber which also assist in returning excess liquid to the paint reservoir. The amount of paint exiting from the paint sprayer may be controlled by controlling the amount of overlap between the movable shutter and spray discharge slot; also by diverting a portion of the paint which is lifted by the conveyor screw back to the reservoir instead of delivering same onto the sprayer disc.

A spreader for distributing particulate material, particularly adapted for use as both a package for particulates and as a disposable spreader, comprises a dispenser, a pair of wheels mounted at opposite ends of the dispenser and a handle for advancing the spreader along a given path as the dispenser rotates. The dispenser has inner and outer chambers, the inner chamber adapted to act as a reservoir for particulate material, the outer chamber adapted to provide a circumferential passageway for particulate material passing from the inner chamber to the exterior of the spreader. A one-way valve arrangement in the passageway restricts particulate flow to the exterior when the dispenser is rotated in one direction but permits flow when rotated in the opposite direction.

An electromagnetic rotary actuator including three laminated pole pieces equiangularly spaced about an output shaft. Each of the pole pieces has a bobbin coil wound thereabout. The output shaft rotor is magnetized with four 90.degree. poles. One of the stator coils is utilized as a reference coil and is energized with a DC current. The other two coils are each coupled to a respective drive transistor. The drive signals to the two drive transistors are complementary. The resultant magnetic field set up by the three stator coils interacts with the magnetic field from the output shaft rotor to move the output shaft to a selected angular position.

Electromagnetic rotary actuator

A keyless chuck adapted to grip an object, such as a drill bit, is disclosed. The keyless chuck includes a cylindrical body provided with an axially extending tapered bore. The surface of the tapered bore includes first and second cam surfaces. A control sleeve is provided surrounding at least a portion of the cylindrical body and is adapted for controlled axial movement relative to the cylindrical body. A retaining element is attached to the control sleeve and partially closes one end of the cylindrical body. A thrust bearing is provided in the retaining element. Gripping elements are positioned within the tapered bore and are adapted to engage and grip the tool when the tool is inserted between the gripping elements. A thrust bearing is positioned in the retaining element which operatively engages the gripping elements. A spring retains the gripping elements in contact with the tapered bore and also with the thrust bearing wherein, upon axial movement of the control sleeve relative to the cylindrical body, the gripping elements move axially within the tapered bore in contact with the first cam means, thereby causing radial movement of the gripping elements and wherein, upon rotation of the cylindrical body relative to the gripping elements, the gripping elements shift along the surface of the second cam and thereby also cause radial movement of the gripping elements.

Keyless chuck

A coatings application apparatus pumps liquid paint through a flexible conduit within a rotary variable displacement peristaltic pump to a conventional applicator head. Through constant speed rotating lobes peristaltic action squeezes coating liquid within the conduit through the paint applicator control handle and applicator. The control handle permits changes in the paint flow rate. Upon constriction of the conduit within the control handle, flow rate is reduced, back pressure develops with resulting tube distortion. Distortion levered forces act upon a pre-set loaded pump spring. Variation in pump displacement results. The liquid flow rate within the supply conduit is inversely proportional to the back pressure so developed. If fluid flow is completely arrested by full supply tube constriction, back pressure becomes a maximum and pump displacement becomes zero. The pump continues to operate, however, at constant R.P.M., requiring no high starting torque. The pump unit employes two reverter train speed reduction systems in tandem. A conventional planetary or epicyclic gear system provides a first reduction in R.P.M. The pump rotor element itself, as a secondary reduction unit, allows economy in selection of a high speed, low power, motor drive for the peristaltic pump.

A stepper disk adder includes a plurality of adjacent disk like rotors that are threadedly coupled such that oscillation of at least some of the rotors in a predetermined manner provides a variable length reciprocating motion that is coupled to the stitch-forming instrumentalities of a sewing machine to provide predetermined stitch patterns.

This disclosure deals with a system for indicating to the driver of a vehicle the operating efficiency of a vehicle. The system senses the speed of the vehicle and a characteristic of the fuel supply system which is indicative of the fuel consumption. These two factors are combined in a dividing circuit which produces a signal indicating the fuel consumption rate which is a measure of the operating efficiency. This signal is fed to an indicator which displays the fuel consumption rate to the operator of the vehicle.

A headlamp cleaning device comprising an elongated horn-like member having an open entrance at one end thereof, a flexible tube anchored within the cage member at a point spaced from the open entrance, the tube including a freely movable portion extending toward the entrance; and means for supplying a high velocity mixture of air and liquid to the tube whereby the tube directs a stream of the mixture toward the headlamp while simultaneously moving in an irregular path within the confines of the open entrance to continuously change the direction of the stream and clean a large area of the headlamp.

An electric gun is provided for the sanitary extruding of comestibles, such as cookie dough, or the like, having an easily disassembled mechanism. Those portions of the gun which are in contact with the food are removable from the drive mechanism to permit sanitary cleaning as well as ease of filling. Reversibility of portions of the mechanism makes reassembly of the gun uncomplicated.
