A common regulator valve is provided for a variable displacement pump fuel metering scheme in which the common regulator valve both controls working output to a pump actuator to control displacement of the variable displacement pump and also to control bypass of excess fuel flow. The regulator valve also includes a differential piston which generates a compensation force off of the bypass flow in order to compensate for changes in spring force and flow reaction force at different system pressures and operational states. As a result, errors in the metered fuel flow can be either eliminated or substantially reduced.

Implementations of biometric deadbolt lock assemblies having various aspects relating to lock housing; a fingerprint sensor in the housing; a controller in the housing and electrically coupled to the fingerprint sensor, the controller configured to store data and compare stored data to data from the fingerprint sensor; a deadbolt mechanism; a manual actuator couplable to the deadbolt mechanism; a controlled actuator electrically coupled to the controller that couples or uncouples the deadbolt mechanism from the manual actuator to enable or disable manual operation of the deadbolt lock through the manual actuator. A battery may also be included within the housing and in particular implementations a biometric deadbolt lock assembly may be configured to fit in the same size opening as a conventional deadbolt lock.

A fuel system having an ecology valve controlling liquid flow through a retention passage when pressurized liquid is passed through the valve is presented. The retention passage winds between the valve outlet and a cavity such that no matter which way the valve is oriented gravity alone is unable to drain liquid from the cavity to the outlet. The ecology valve serves to suction fuel from fuel nozzle passages upon engine shutdown. Fuel is temporarily stored in the cavity and the retention passage. The ecology valve also provides a fuel splitting function for providing a port geometry determined split between fuel nozzles in the fuel system.

Paper drive unit instability that includes a variable displacement hydraulic motor (34), a rotary output (48), and a displacement controlling wobbler (36, 40) in the case of an aiding load can be avoided through the use of a double acting hydraulic actuator (42, 44) connected to the wobbler (36, 40) along with a control valve (30) including a single spool (80) connected to the motor (34), and wobbler control pilot valve (62) and to the actuator (42, 44) for a) controlling the speed and direction of rotation of the motor output (48); and b) controlling the actuator (42, 44) to maintain minimum displacement of the motor 34 when an aiding load occurs. System optimization can be achieved by changing the differential pressure setting in response to the available system pressure.

The problem of providing a simplified actuator apparatus (10) for converting unidirectional motion to multidirectional motion is provided by a driven member (14) rotatable about a first axis (18) and a drive member (12) rotatable about a second axis (28) generally parallel to and spaced from the first axis (18). The driven member (14) has first (20) and second (22) radially disposed, diametrically opposed cam followers. The drive member (12) has first (36) and second (38) radially disposed cam actuators. The first cam follower (20) of the driven member (14) is engageable by the first cam actuator (36) of the drive member (12) for driving the driven member in one direction of rotation in response to rotation of the drive member in one direction. The second cam follower (22) of the driven member (14) is engageable by the second cam actuator (38) of the drive member (12) for driving the driven member in an opposite direction of rotation in response to continued rotation of the drive member in the same, one direction.

Difficulty in disconnecting two coupled shafts (38, 40) is avoided through the use of a retractable shaft coupler which includes a sleeve (22) which can engage respective shafts (38, 40) at each of its ends and having at least one spring (28) coaxially positioned inside of the sleeve (22). The spring (28) is sandwiched and contained inside of the sleeve (22) by washers (24, 26) which are retained by splines (32, 34). The construct allows retraction from one of the shafts (40) by moving the tubular member (22) in the axial direction away from the shaft (40) against the bias of the spring 28.

In order to entirely eliminate pressure drop sensors in a variable displacement hydraulic motor (10), and to change the wobbler angle mechanically rather than hydraulically, the hydraulic motor (10) includes a motor housing (26) having a plurality of hydraulic cylinders (32) and a plurality of hydraulic pistons (34) radially disposed about an axis (36) thereof. A servovalve (40) is provided for controlling the rate and direction of flow of hydraulic fluid to and from the hydraulic cylinders (32), and the wobbler (22) is operatively associated with the hydraulic pistons (34) in a variably angularly positionable manner for varying displacement of the hydraulic motor (10). With this arrangement, the hydraulic motor (10) includes a cam system (22a, 30) for automatically varying the angular positioning of the wobbler (22) relative to the axis (36) of the hydraulic motor (10) responsive to a load-related torque at an output shaft (12) thereof.

A safety device for a drive unit adapted for manual and powered driven movement of a drive shaft. The safety device includes a brake operably associated with the drive shaft for preventing manual and powered driven movement of the drive shaft. It also includes a manual input for releasing the brake and effecting manual driven movement of the drive shaft and a powered input for releasing the brake and effecting powered driven movement of the drive shaft. With this arrangement, the safety device is such that the powered input is operable to disengage the manual input before effecting powered driven movement of the drive shaft.

A rotary travel limit stop apparatus having a first rotary member (10) and second and third independently rotatable members (14 and 20) having slightly different numbers of gear teeth which engage the gear teeth on a first member (10) carry a movable stop pin (30) which is adapted to engage a fixed stop member (40) only during a revolution near the limit stop position of a controlled element such as an aileron. A stop plate (54) carrying a fixed stop member (40) is angularly adjusted by rotation of a screw (70) which is received by a barrel nut (64) that is coupled to the stop plate (54) by a protuberance (66).

A dual function brake and manual drive actuating system for selectively holding a rotatable member of a drive train and manually driving the drive train. A support structure is provided, with a brake operatively associated between the support structure and the rotatable member for holding the member against rotation. A common release member is operatively associated with the brake. A fluid retracting mechanism operates against the common release member to selectively hold the brake in disengaged condition. A manual retracting mechanism also operates against the common release member to selectively hold the brake in disengaged condition. A manual drive is incorporated in the manual retracting mechanism for manually rotating the rotatable member when in the disengaged condtion.

Dual function brake and manual drive actuating system

A three directional load reacting mount connects first and second members together through a plain, self aligning ball bearing. An axial member extends through the ball of the bearing. An axial force on one of the members is not transmitted to the other through the bearing but at an axial load bearing element offset from the bearing. The offset is in the direction of a supporting structure connected to the other member thereby reducing the moment transmitted to the supporting structure from the axial force.

The brake activation apparatus comprises first and second brake devices capable of being selectively applied, a shifting mechanism for selectively applying either the first or second brake device and not the other, a mechanism for overriding the shifting mechanism for applying both of the first and second brake devices, and a mechanism for releasing the override during both normal and manual operation. The apparatus is useful in a power drive unit comprising a carrier having first and second planetary gears rotatably mounted on the carrier, first and second rotatably mounted sun gears in meshing engagement with the respective planetary gears, the sun gears each having a drive output portion for driving respective devices and a braking portion for cooperation with the first and second brake devices to control the output of the power drive unit by selectively braking the respective sun gears.

An actuator includes a main shaft (16) at the input of a speed reducing gear unit (29-32) which carries an overtravel stop mechanism. The grounded stops (68) are adjustable by a worm gear (72) to allow a near infinite resolution of the position for the overtravel stop of the driven member (16). Rotating stop members (52) are mounted for translation along the main shaft (16). When traveling nut (44) engages a cam surface (60), cam follower (56) translates the normally rotating stop members (52) in a direction opposing the bias force of a compression spring (36) into a stop condition against the grounded fixed stop (68) on wheel (50).

An apparatus for limiting the amount of torque from a drive source applied to a torque responsive element in which a pair of rotatable cam plates have opposing faces formed with radially extending grooves. A plurality of angularly spaced balls are provided for respectively engaging within the opposing ramp grooves. A retainer plate is sandwiched between the opposing cam plates, with angularly spaced holes for freely receiving and radially retaining the balls. The retainer plate has periheral walls for surrounding, journalling and piloting the cam plates.
