A method of printing a high density image. An image is accessed, wherein the image has a plurality of pixels, and each pixel has an r,g,b value. For each pixel, each r,g,b value is separated into separate grayscale components and color components. A lookup table is applied to each grayscale and color component to generate an ink value for each of the print heads. The ink values are combined to produce a final ink output value for each pixel, and the final ink output values are employed for printing on medium using an ink-jet printer.

Color medical imaging on film

A method of printing a high density image on a transparent medium. In some examples, the method includes calculating an expected optical density for an input pixel value, using a first function configured to output an optical density which produces a substantially linear relationship between the input pixel value and the output optical density as substantially perceived by a human eye. The method may also include calculating an L* value which represent a parameter in a CIELAB colorspace using the expected optical density. In some examples, the method includes calculating a response function that describes the relationship between L* and an output pixel value, the output pixel value specifying the amount of ink to deposit onto the transparent medium. In other examples, the method includes using the response function to solve for an output pixel value for the L* value; and creating a look up table.

High density ink-jet printing on a transparency in a cielab colorspace

A method for printing on transparent medium using an ink-jet printer. The method includes providing a grayscale image having a plurality of pixels, each pixel having a pixel value corresponding to a brightness of the pixel; converting each pixel value to an ink output value for the ink-jet printer using a conversion function, wherein the conversion function maps the darkest pixel value to an optical density of greater than 2.5 and maps all other pixel values to an appropriate output pixel value such that a resulting printed image is perceived to be linearly bright across the image.

Transparent ink-jet recording films, compositions, and methods are disclosed. These films can exhibit high maximum optical densities, rapid ink drying, low curl, excellent adhesion between the coating layers and the substrate, and negligible ink transfer between stacked ink-jet recording films after imaging. Such films are useful in medical imaging applications.

Addition of a surfactant to either the under-layer, the image-receiving layer, or to both the under-layer and the image-receiving layer provides a quick-drying, transparent ink-jet recording film capable of achieving an optical density of at least 2.8 while still having a low haze and producing a number of grey levels.
