A method of consolidating user actions across a plurality of electronic devices. The method comprises receiving information from each of a plurality of electronic devices associated with a common user, where the receiving is performed by a consolidation application executing on a server computer, and analyzing the information by the consolidation application. The method further comprises identifying by the consolidation application a first application installed on a first one of the electronic devices, based on a plurality of mappings of related applications to different compatible electronic devices, determining that a second application related to the first application is compatible with a second one of the electronic devices, and sending a message to the second one of the electronic devices that suggests that the second application be installed on the second one of the electronic devices, whereby a user installs the second application on the second one of the electronic devices.

Backup and restore of customer devices

Systems and methods for providing voice services and/or data services to a portable electronic device. The portable electronic device has an application in its memory that compares an available network code to a list of blocked network codes. If the available network code is on the list of blocked network codes, the application may send a notification that service is not available or may see if a different network code is on the list of blocked network codes. If the available network code is not on the list of blocked network codes, voice and/or data services may be provided to the portable electronic device by the telecommunications service provider associated with the available network code.

The method further comprises installing a branding framework application into the system memory partition, wherein the branding framework application is configured to change the mobile communication device from a current brand to a different brand, wherein some information related to the current brand of the mobile communication device is stored in the carrier partition.

System and method for retrofitting a branding framework into a mobile communication device

A system configured to limit an un-provisioned mobile communication device from repeatedly failing to access a network. The system comprises an authorized activation application, a setting, wherein the setting is configured to limit access to a data connection to the authorized activation application, and a mobile communication device, wherein the mobile communication device is configured to: maintain the data connection in an inactive state, prevent unauthorized applications from activating the data connection, activate the data connection in response to input from the authorized activation application, and attempt to connect to a network in response to the data connection in an active state.

A method of responding to a network connection failure in a mobile communication device. The method comprises receiving an error message indicating a data connection failure, activating an application configured to attempt to access the network using a first identifier on the mobile communication device in response to receiving the error message, sending an SMS message from the mobile communication device over an SMS control channel in an attempt to access the network, receiving information indicating a failure to access the network through the SMS control channel, determining that the failure to access the network is based on the first identifier, performing a limited reset of the mobile communication device to replace the first identifier with a factory default identifier, confirming through use of the factory default identifier that the first identifier is inactive, and establishing the factory default identifier such that the mobile communication device is configured for activation.

Detection and self-healing of a mobile communication device network access failure

The invention is directed to methods for facilitating communication between multiple wireless access components. Initially, a second wireless access component is detected to be within range of a first wireless access component. It is determined that a wireless connection is to be established between the wireless access components. Access information is exchanged between the wireless access components indicating capacity and current usage of each other's outbound link to the Internet. A wireless connection is then established between the two wireless access components, thus allowing for routing of Internet traffic between the wireless access components.

A radio access network (RAN) includes a first wireless access point that radiates to define a first wireless coverage area, and a second wireless access point that radiates to define a second wireless coverage area. A dual-mode wireless communication device (WCD), capable of communicating via both the first and second wireless coverage areas registers with the first wireless access point. As part of the registration process, or at some point thereafter, the first wireless access point transmits information that identifies the second wireless coverage area. The first wireless access point also transmits a WCD identifier received from the WCD during the registration process to the second access point, so that the second access point can add the WCD identifier to its whitelist. Thus, via the second wireless coverage area, the WCD can register with the second wireless coverage area.

A method and corresponding device are disclosed for varying setup mode based on reported latency at a target device. The target device or its serving network may report a latency characteristic associated with the target device, such as an indication of the air interface protocol and/or slot cycle being used by the target device, and an initiating device or communication server may use the reported latency as a basis to decide whether to operate in (i) a normal setup mode when setting up a communication session with the target device or (ii) an optimistic setup mode when setting up a communication session with the target device.

A dual-mode wireless communication device (WCD), capable of communicating via both Wifi and cellular technologies, registers with a Wifi access point. As part of the registration process, or at some point thereafter, the Wifi access point transmits a frequency at which a femtocell access point operates. Upon receiving this frequency, the WCD registers for cellular service with the femtocell access point. As a result, the WCD may be able to communicate simultaneously via both the Wifi access point and the femtocell access point.
