Energetic electron beam assisted x-ray generator having a plasma generator nd an electron source interconnected by a sealed pinch tube and control means for the plasma generator, electron source, and said sealed pinch tube to cause the electron source to be focused on the plasma from the plasma generator and to cause the electron source to be transmitted to the plasma of the plasma generator at the appropriate time to cause a maximum amount of soft x-rays to be produced by the interaction of the outputs of the plasma generator and the electron source when said plasma has been seeded with appropriate high Z-material.

An electron beam driven neutron generator which comprises an electron sou connected to a beam forming and guiding section for guiding the electron beam to a target which is held by a portion of the beam forming and guiding section and in which the target has a magnetic field thereabout to control heat conduction by charged particles at the target to cause neutrons to be produced at the target by interaction of the output from the electron beam source and the material forming the target.

The inner electrode of the plasma generator utilizes the interaction of the beam's self magnetic field with the inner surface of the inner electrode to guide the electron source to the plasma.
