A system for delivery of a gas to a user has a single tubular nasal cavity component having only two terminal ends: a gas inlet and a gas outlet with a single gas flow path between. The component is configured for insertion into the nostril of a user and maintains the position without adhesive. The nasal cavity component includes a first portion having a first longitudinal axis along the single gas flow path. A proximal end of the first portion is flared outward for insertion into a nostril of a patient. A second portion has a second longitudinal axis, and a gas inlet end to receive gas from a gas supply. A distal end of the second portion intersects a distal end of the first portion in a bend portion, such that the first and second longitudinal axes intersect at an angle of between about 60 and about 80&#xb0;.

Gas delivery device

A gas delivery device (oror) having a substantially U-shaped nasal cavity component (oror) that fits inside the patient's nostril is in fluid communication with a tubular guidance-stabilization system (or) that extends from the nasal cavity component (oror), across the patient's cheek, and over the patient's ear. The tubular guidance-stabilization system (or) has a flexible wire or flexible strap that is embedded (or otherwise inserted) within the wall (oror) of the tubular guidance-stabilization system (or) for the purpose of supporting the integrity of the gas delivery device (oror) in order to maintain the tubular nasal cavity component (oror) in the patient's nostril. A stabilization patch (oror) further secures the tubular guidance-stabilization system (or) to the cheek and/or behind the ear of the patient.

In accordance with the apparatus and method of the present invention, a biopotential lesion sensor is placed directly over a lesion in a symptomatic breast and a reference sensor is located away from the symptomatic breast. A plurality of electropotential test measurements are taken during a test period with the lesion sensor and averaged to obtain a primary test potential. This primary test potential can be weighted to compensate for one or more biologic variables such as patient age, time in the patient menstrual cycle, and the time of day during which the measurement is taken. To provide noise enhancement of the primary test potential average measurement, the symptomatic breast is divided into four equal quadrants with one quadrant containing the lesion. One, two or all three of the remaining three non-lesion quadrants is provided with at least one non-lesion test sensor, and during the test period a number of electropotential measurements equal to those taken by the sensor over the lesion are taken and averaged. The processor may then obtain the median value of the averages for the non-lesion quadrants or alternatively the mean value, and it will then subtract this median or mean value from the primary test potential to provide the differential value.

Method and apparatus for sensing and processing biopotentials

An electrode connector and connector condition sensor for a biopotential sensing apparatus wherein a plurality of electrodes are connected to individual output leads for individual electrode channels by a connector which does not abrade the surface of the electrode button contact and does not require that pressure be applied to the electrode during connection. Two spring biased conductive arms for the connector are spread apart by the cam surface of an actuator button to receive the button contact and are contoured to engage substantially the entire peripheral surface of the button contact when the actuator button is released. The biopotential sensing apparatus includes a processor which senses the loss of signal in any electrode channel during a test period and activates an indicator to provide a warning indication.

DC biopotential electrode connector and connector condition sensor

A DC biopotential sensing electrode assembly is provided for an apparatus for sensing DC biopotentials present at the skin of a subject. An electroconductive medium for transmitting ions from the skin which has a chloride ion content within a range of from 6-15 grams per hundred grams of such medium is formulated for use with the electrode. To reduce the corrosive effect of this electroconductive medium, each electrode includes only one metallic component, and to provide an electrode with a low AC impedance, this metal is uniformly coated upon nonmetallic sensor and terminal bodies with a coating thickness within a range of from 0.5 to 1.5 mil. To insure a complete electrical path through both the sensor and the terminal bodies, the nonmetallic portions are formed of conductive plastic.

D.C. biopotential sensing electrode and electroconductive medium for use

A method and apparatus for screening or sensing disease states, injury sites or bodily conditions in a human or animal subject by separately detecting the DC biopotential of the electromagnetic field at a plurality of test points in a test area. The DC biopotentials are converted by analog to digital converters connected to DC biopotential test sensors at the test points into digital test signals, and the DC biopotential test sensors and analog to digital converters form a biopotential sensing section which is separate from a processing section that receives and processes the digital test signals. Signals between the processing section and the bopotential sensing section are transmitted by a transmission network which electrically isolates the two sections. The conversions performed by the analog to digital converters are synchronized with the AC line frequency of the apparatus power supply, and the digital test signals are filtered in the processing section by digital filters, each of which is dedicated to an individual DC biopotential test sensor.

A method and apparatus are disclosed for fetal anatomic sex assignment by ultrasound during early pregnancy based on pattern recognition that allows identification of external genitalia during the gestational age range of 12 to 14 weeks. The pattern recognition derives from knowledge of the embryology of the developing external genitalia of the fetus and the relationship between embryologic events and recognizing patterns specific for male and female obtained by ultrasonic imaging. Fetal anatomic sex has been accurately diagnosed using high resolution digital linear-array real-time ultrasound in over 500 pregnancies that were scheduled for ultrasound except for detected cases of sex reversal, sex chromosome mosaicism, prior to genetic amniocentesis, and ambiguous sex chromosomes, except as noted, ultrasonic imaging of the penile or clitoral structure corresponded to later sex determination by karyotype. Imaging of the external genitalia can be included as part of a complete fetal anatomic survey, which includes gestational age dating and inspection for gross abnormalities. Sex assignment requires 30 seconds to 10 minutes. Fetal anatomic sex assignment can be performed by ultrasound early in pregnancy, that is, during the twelfth to fourteenth weeks from the last menstrual period of the mother, yet the results are as accurate as those obtained by chromosome analysis from genetic amniocentesis which can be safely performed only after the sixteenth week of pregnancy. Fetal anatomic sex assignment is particularly useful in genetic counseling with regard to X-linked disorders and can be clinically important when either sex reversal, sex chromosome mosaicism, or ambiguous sex chromosomes are detected by prenatal diagnosis. Other features are also disclosed.
