An Application Media Package is a software component for accessing and displaying Internet content which includes a definition for rendering a graphical user interface and a URL pointing to Internet content to be downloaded and presented within said user interface. An Application Media Viewer may be used in association with an Application Media Package to manage the collection, organization, sharing, and rendering of a plurality of such Packages. A development server supports the community of Application Media Package developers, providing developer tools, including Package templates which provide an expedient method of re-purposing existing internet media into a new presentation package by choosing from existing examples. Access to tools and information may be controlled at the development server. The development server may also provide a development and test zone for Package verification, authentication and acceptance before posting.

System and methods for creating and authorizing internet content using application media packages

An application media package for accessing and displaying Internet content includes a definition for rendering a graphical user interface and a URL pointing to Internet content that may be downloaded and presented within said user interface. An application media viewer may be used in association with the application media package to manage the collection, organization, sharing, and rendering of a plurality of such Packages. Such Application Media Packages may be obtained via a web browser displaying links thereto. They may also be obtained through functionality provided by said Application Media Viewer. Links to Application Media Packages may be shared among user, for example by email. Groupings of Application Media Packages may be created by users or Package providers, and such groupings may be shared amongst users.

The invention provides a method of processing distributable computer readable media in a client/server computer system in a manner specified by a user. The method includes the steps of providing a login construct to a client computer from a server computer. A server computer accepts a login identifier from the client computer that corresponds to the user. The login identifier is used to locate an unprocessed user profile associated with the login identifier in a user profile database when the unprocessed user profile exists. A home networked information monitor is delivered to the client computer in accordance with instructions in a processed user profile. The home networked information monitor is capable of accessing each networked information monitor associated with the login identifier. Each networked information monitor is capable of processing distributable computer readable media.

Apparatus and method for dynamically coordinating the delivery of computer readable media

A method for accessing and displaying network content employs an informational component which includes a definition for rendering a graphical user interface within which content may be presented outside of and without utilization of another application. The informational component also includes one or more definitions of content locations from which content elements may be transmitted over a network and presented within the graphical user interface. A provider of an informational component or informational components may thus create customized displays within which intended content may be rendered. A system and method of managing a digital video recorder using a user customizable television broadcast list which includes a list of a plurality of user selected television programs being displayed on a website. The television programs on the list are identified based on date and time broadcast information which are retrieved from a storage medium. At least one of the user selected television programs from the list is exported to a digital video recorder (DVR) upon the user selecting the at least one user selected television program from the list. The DVR is instructed to automatically record the television programs at a predetermined date and time based on the date and time broadcast information.

The invention includes a method of tracking distributed content within a computer network. The method includes the step of identifying the delivery of a set of Network Information Monitors (NIMs). Information about each NTM within the set of NIMs is tracked. The information includes a first time at which a user opens a selected NIM, a second time at which the user closes the selected NW, and an identifier for the selected NIM. The information is used to determine sub-sets of NIMs that are displayed simultaneously. The invention also includes a method of identifying the delivery of a Network Information Monitor (NIM) to a user. Content information for the NIM is recorded. NIM use activity is tracked the user for a set of NIMs. The content information is correlated with the NIM use activity.

The invention includes a method of hosting Internet content. The method includes the step of receiving an address of a definition from a computing device, where the definition defines a frame and a location of content with which to fill in the frame. The definition is located in a database utilizing the address. The definition is transmitted to the computing device. A method of the invention also includes permitting access to a database containing a set of definitions, where the set of definitions defines a frame and a location of content with which to fill in the frame. Instructions are received to modify a selected definition of the set of definitions. The selected definition is modified to create a new selected definition.

Apparatus and method of hosting internet content

The invention includes a method of presenting distributable computer readable media to a user in response to a user request. The method comprises the steps of identifying a definition of a Networked Information Monitor (NIM). A NIM frame is defined for the NIM using the definition. Content is then retrieved for the NIM. Then, the content is placed in a NIM viewer defined by the frame. The invention also includes a method of altering a Networked Information Monitor (NIM). The method includes the step of receiving a message at a NIM. The message specifies a configurable feature of the NIM. The NIM is altered in accordance with the configurable feature of the message.
