Methods are disclosed for treating or preventing graft versus host disease in a subject. The methods include selecting a subject in need of treatment for graft versus host disease; and administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of a TLR5 agonist such as a flagellin polypeptide, or a polynucleotide encoding the flagellin, thereby treating or preventing graft versus host disease in the subject. Methods are also disclosed for reducing susceptibility to an opportunistic infection in a subject who is a bone marrow transplant recipient. The methods include selecting a subject who has had a bone marrow or hematopoietic stem cell transplant; and administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of a TLR5 agonist such as a flagellin polypeptide or a polynucleotide encoding the polypeptide, and administering to the subject an effective amount antigen of the opportunistic infection, thereby reducing the susceptibility to the opportunistic infection in the subject.

Methods for the treatment of graft-versus-host disease

An immunological or immunohematological assay system is disclosed that includes a filter vessel capable of containing an assay sample, an incubator, a sample separation system, an image acquisition system, and a robotic pipettor. The immunological assay system may also include a washer. Also disclosed is an immunological assay method that includes the steps of placing a immunological assay sample in a filter vessel, which includes a filter, adding testing reagents to the filter vessel, incubating the sample and reagent mixture in the filter vessel, separating the sample and reagent mixture in the filter vessel into components above and below the filter, and analyzing the filter vessel to determine the presence of interactions between the sample and reagents.

Immunological assay system and method

An immunological or immunohematological assay system is disclosed that includes a vessel capable of containing an assay sample, an incubator, a sample separation system, an image acquisition system, and a pipettor. The immunological assay system may also include a washer. Also disclosed is an immunological assay method that includes the steps of placing a immunological assay sample in a vessel, which may include a filter; adding testing reagents to the vessel; incubating the sample and reagent mixture in the vessel; separating the sample and reagent mixture in the vessel into components that have and have not reacted; and analyzing the vessel to determine the presence of interactions between the sample and reagents. The bottom of the vessel is preferably of a material that aids in spreading out the reacted components of the sample evenly over the bottom of the vessel so that interactions can more easily be analyzed.
