An electrographic liquid applicator head is inexpensively but precisely fabricated by adhering a flat base member, in which grooves are molded or cast, to a thin, photofabricated cover member. The adhesive isolates the supply gutters of the base and supply slits of the cover from adjacent drain slits and gutters. In a preferred embodiment the surface of the cover member is held in a suitably planar position by a planar surface on a magnetic chuck.

Electrographic liquid applicator head and fabrication method therefor

An electrophotographic imaging method is described that uses an element comprising a photoconductive layer on an electrically conducting substrate capable of transmitting actinic radiation to which the photoconductive layer is responsive, and a dielectric support, releasably adhered to the substrate, comprising the photoconductive layer or an overcoat thereof forming a surface of the element capable of holding an applied electrostatic charge. To use the element, the surface of the dielectric support is charged, and the photoconductive layer is imagewise-exposed to actinic radiation, thereby forming a developable electrostatic image on the dielectric surface. The electrostatic image, in turn, is developed with toner to form a first color image. A composite color image is formed on the element by repeating the sequence one or more times with imagewise exposure of the photoconductive layer to actinic radiation transmitted through the substrate, and developing over each preceding image with a different color toner. The composite toner image is transferred with the dielectric support to a receiving element to form a color copy such as a three-color filter array or a color proof closely simulating the color print expected from a full press run.

Electrophotographic color imaging method

An electrophotographic proofing element is described comprising a photoconductive layer on an electrically conducting substrate, capable of transmitting actinic radiation to which the photoconductive layer is responsive, and a dielectric support, releasably adhered to the substrate, comprising the photoconductive layer or an overcoat thereof forming a surface of the element capable of holding an applied electrostatic charge. Electrophotographic color proofing element and method for using the same

An electrophotographic method is disclosed for forming a black (or neutral) toner separation image and a color toner separation image from a single original without cross-contamination of black toner in the color separation image and vice versa. The method entails composing an original containing 'false-color' information--other than black or neutral--corresponding to the black separation image desired and color information corresponding to the color separation image desired. The false-color and color information are selected to absorb actinic light in mutually exclusive wavelength regions of the spectrum. When the original is illuminated, for example, with light having wavelengths in the false-color absorption region only, a light pattern is formed and employed to expose a charged photoreceptor. The resulting electrostatic image is developed with black--or neutral--toner, thereby forming the black separation image. On the other hand, when the original is illuminated with light of wavelengths in the color information region only, the light pattern produced establishes a different charge pattern when used to expose a charged photoreceptor. The latter charge pattern is developed with a colored toner. The black and color toner separation images form a composite image without toner cross-contamination when transferred in register to a receiver.

Electrophotographic method for producing black and color separation

An electrographic development apparatus, particularly suited for single component developer, provides an electrographic imaging member mounted in a tensioned condition along the apparatus path in a manner causing a substantial normal force between that member and the opposing portion of a developer applicator. Drive transmission structure of the applicator and the image member maintains nominal member spacing and minimizes relative movement of the members to facilitate development under such biased relation.
