An omnidirectional light emitting device is provided. An example device includes a flexible substrate having a substrate length, a first substrate surface, and a second substrate surface. The flexible substrate is configured to be flexibly wrenched about a longitudinal axis that is parallel to the substrate length. The example device further includes a plurality of LED packages disposed on the first substrate surface. Each LED package of the plurality of LED packages is configured to emit light outward from the flexible substrate.

An example light module comprises a circuit board having a first side and a second side and defining a module axis; and a plurality of light emitting diode (LED) packages. At least one LED package is mounted to each of the first and second side of the circuit board. The example light module further comprises an optical sleeve. The circuit board is mounted within the optical sleeve. The optical sleeve comprises a plurality of optical columns each having a light emitting surface. Each light emitting surface has a profile such that one or more profiles of one or more light emitting surfaces define an ellipse in a cross-section of the light module taken perpendicular to the module axis.

Flame lamp

A lighting system with removable light modules mounted on a frame by an attractive force between magnetic material of the light module and magnetic material of the frame such that a light module may be installed on, removed from, or relocated on the frame manually without tools or permanent electrical connection. The frame may be one-, two-, or three-dimensional, and it may provide an aesthetic appearance even when the lighting system is not illuminated. The light modules may employ incandescent, quartz-halogen, LED, or fluorescent light sources. Particularly, in LED embodiments, the magnetic materials serve the dual functions of mounting and heat sinking. The lighting system may be utilized as a sign, signaling device, or a building block in larger lighting systems. The lighting system has a wide variety of applications and provides a user with improved ability to control the quantity, direction, and characteristics of the emitted light.
