The invention relates to a module for processing a fluid having a body of wound layers of a sheet material, the body having inner and outer surfaces, first and second end faces and a passage extending along the winding axis of said body in fluid communication with the inner surface, the sheet material having openings forming at least three types of channels, the channels extending from the inner surface to the outer surface, a first type of channel being open at the outer surface of the body and closed at the other end, a second type of channel being open at the inner surface of the body, in fluid communication with said passage and closed at the other end, a third type of channel being closed at both ends thereof and positioned such as to receive fluid from one or more channels of the first or second type.

Range separation devices and processes

A filter apparatus is provided which includes a first filter membrane element (), and a second bacterial filter membrane element. Multiple barrier filter apparatus

A fluid treatment element comprises a fluid treatment pack including a fluid treatment medium. The fluid treatment pack has a hollow interior and a barrier is disposed in the hollow interior. The barrier separates a blind region in which fluid cannot flow between the hollow interior and the fluid treatment pack from an open region in which fluid can flow between the hollow interior and the fluid treatment pack and prevents fluid from flowing between the blind region and the open region. The fluid treatment pack also has an end region having a sealed end. The fluid treatment element defines a flow path for process fluid to be treated passing in a lengthwise direction through a portion of the fluid treatment pack.

Fluid treatment elements

A filter may comprise a plurality of pleats, at least one pleat including a pair of pleat legs and pleat tip region. In some embodiments, a thickness of pleat tip region at a point spaced about one to four pleat leg thicknesses from the end of the pleat tip region may be less than or equal to about twice the pleat leg thickness or may be less than or equal to a distance between corresponding points on opposing outer surfaces of the pleat legs. A filter may comprise a pleated structure having a plurality of pleats. In some embodiments, the pleated structure may have more than one layer and at least one of the pleats may have a reformed pleat tip region. A method of making a filter may also comprise forming a plurality of pleats free of bulbous pleat tip regions. A method of making a filter may comprise forming a plurality of pleats wherein a thickness of each pleat tip region at a point spaced about one to about four pleat leg thicknesses from the end of the pleat tip region is less than or equal to about twice the pleat leg thickness or is less than or equal to a distance between corresponding points on opposing outer surfaces of the pleat legs. An apparatus may comprise one or more dies arranged to reform a pleat tip region of a pleat.

Pleated filter and a method for making the same

A fluid treatment element is adapted for cross flow filtration which includes a fluid treatment pack having first and second lengthwise ends, a fluid treatment layer that may be pleated, a first mesh layer disposed on a first side of the fluid treatment layer and a second mesh layer disposed on the second side of the treatment layer, the element defining a flow path for a process fluid to be treated passing in a lengthwise direction of the fluid treatment element inside the first mesh layer and a flow path for permeate passing through the second mesh layer. The first mesh layer may open onto the first lengthwise end with the second mesh layer including sealant at the first lengthwise end such that fluid can flow through the first lengthwise end into the first mesh layer but not into the second mesh layer. The element may include a core having a blind region in which fluid cannot pass therethrough and at least one regions where fluid can pass through the core.

Fluid treatment elements adapted for cross flow treatment

The filter elements and the members are interleaved and arranged to rotate with respect to one another. The present invention provides methods for treating milk products to reduce the bacteria and fat therein and/or to recover proteins therefrom. In particular, the present invention provides a method of treating a milk product comprising dynamically filtering the milk product (particularly skim milk or whey) through a filtration medium having a pore rating of about 0.1-1 .mu.m to produce a fat-depleted milk product permeate. The present invention also provides a method of concentrating a protein in a milk product comprising dynamically filtering the milk product through a filtration medium to form a protein-enriched retentate or a protein-enriched permeate. This method can be repeated with the protein-enriched fraction using filtration media of increasingly smaller pore ratings in order to recover particular proteins or combinations of proteins (from among many proteins in the milk product).
