A system and method for delivering full-bandwidth sound to an audience in an audience space located in front of an acoustically reflective image screen such as a plasma, LCD, LED, or OLED screen. The sound delivery system provides for two separate and spatially displaced sound sources, namely, a high frequency loudspeaker for reproducing high frequency components of the sound associated with images displayed on the acoustically reflective image screen, and a separate low frequency loudspeaker for reproducing low frequency components of the image-associated sound. The high frequency loudspeaker or loudspeakers are positioned in front of the image screen to direct the high frequency components of the sound at the image screen where it is reflected back into the audience space, whereas the low frequency loudspeaker or loudspeakers are positioned at or about the acoustically reflective image screen and direct the low frequency components of the sound toward the audience space which are time-aligned with the high frequency components.

System and method for delivering full-bandwidth sound to an audience in an audience space

An apparatus for modifying a responsive liquid held in a barrel or other liquid container includes a transducer for producing vibration energy within the audio frequency range in response to an audio signal input and a coupler affixed to the transducer such that vibration energy produced in the transducer is transferred to the coupling device. The coupling device has a pusher end that extends beyond the front plane of the transducer and that contacts and pushes against the barrel wall when the apparatus is tied to the barrel wall. By determining the resonances of the liquid-filled barrel, audio input signals having sufficiently high levels at determined resonant frequencies can be chosen to achieve a maximum response in the liquid contained in the barrel. The apparatus is particularly suited for the sonic aging of whisky.

Apparatus and method for modifying a responsive liquid held in a liquid container having resonant frequencies in the audio frequency range

A noise generator and method are provided for generating a test signal for measuring the performance of a loudspeaker over an operating broad band of frequencies ranging from low to high frequencies. A broadband random noise source is provided for generating broadband noise over the operating broad band of frequencies of the loudspeaker, and an impulsive noise source is additionally provided for generating random impulses of noise. The broadband noise and the randomly generated noise impulses are equalized to produce a composite noise signal having a desired crest factor as a function of frequency.

An improved open-ear hearing aid to compensate for hearing loss includes a microphone for picking up incident sound and converting it to an electrical audio signal. An ear insert positionable within a human ear canal is provided for producing an output sound amplified within one or more frequency bands in response to incident sound picked up by the microphone. The in-band gain of the amplified sound output of the ear insert's loudspeaker is dependent on the user's hearing loss characteristics and the sound pressure levels of the incident sound. The form of the ear insert allows transmission of incident sound directly to the eardrum, where it is summed at the eardrum with the amplified sound output from the ear insert. Sound output is maximum at low incident sound pressure levels and minimum when the incident sound exceeds a set cut-off level.

The hearing aid includes a signal processor having a level-dependent filter section and a level-independent filter section. The level-dependent filter section provides level-dependent gain wherein sound is attenuated or amplified depending on the level of the incoming sound. The level-independent filter section provides substantially constant gain wherein sound that passes through the filter section is not changed in level, and provides transparency in that it corrects for insertion loss caused by the earpiece of the hearing aid when worn by the user. The level dependent and level independent filter sections, when fitted to the user, greatly improve the user's perception of sound.

A filter for correcting phase distortion produced at low frequencies in a loudspeaker system is created by inverting the phase response of the determined complex-valued frequency response of a loudspeaker system. The inverted phase response is obtained by taking the complex conjugate of the phase response. The impulse response for the inverted phase response is obtained by means of an inverse Fourier transform of the inverted phase response. The impulse response provides a linear phase FIR filter having a long filter length. The linear phase FIR filter is applied to the audio signal input to the loudspeaker system. Prior to inverting the phase response, the determined complex-valued frequency response of a loudspeaker system can be subjected to high frequency blanking and polynomial smoothing. Also, the linear phase FIR filter can be subjected to a window function prior to applying the filter to the audio signal.

A method for correcting magnitude and phase distortion in open ear hearing devices includes determining the insertion effect of the hearing device () substantially at the ear drum () when in the ear. Both the magnitude and phase response of the complex insertion transfer function (ITF) are corrected when the transfer function to the ear drum substantially matches the transfer function without the hearing device in place.

A method for correcting magnitude and phase distortion in open ear hearing devices includes determining the insertion effect of the hearing device substantially at the ear drum when in the ear. Both the magnitude and phase response of the complex insertion transfer function (ITF) are corrected when the transfer function to the ear drum substantially matches the transfer function without the hearing device in place.

The present invention provides a water leak detection system for detecting water leaks in residential and commercial buildings or constructions. The water leak detection system provides central monitoring and point identification data of water leaks. The water detection system includes a plurality of address modules connected to a plurality of sensors for assigning an identifier to each sensor. The address modules are in wired or wireless communication with a central control unit, which processes detected sensor signals and notifies an alarm annunciator of point identification data of a water leak. The alarm annunciator provides visual and/or audible indications of where a water leak has been detected. The central control unit and/or alarm annunciator further operate a valve associated to the sensor in order to revert the water leak detection. The central control unit can further communicate the detection to a remote equipment, via a wired or wireless network communication.

The present invention provides a centralized water leak detection system for detecting water leaks in residential and commercial buildings. The water leak detections system provides central station monitoring and point identification data of water leaks. The centralized water detection system includes a plurality of address modules connected to a plurality of sensors for assigning an identifier to each sensor. The address modules are connected to a central control for processing detected sensor signals. A water alarm annunciator is remotely installed in a central monitoring station for displaying point identification data showing detection and location of water leaks.

An improved filtering system for loudspeaker equalization is comprised of two filtering sections, a single pole filtering section having single pole filters for shaping the frequency response of the audio signal over the operative bandwidth of the equalized loudspeaker system, and a parametric filtering section that provides for localized parametric equalization for compensating for room or other environmental resonances. The filtering system of the invention can be used to create a wide variety of useful filter shapes, while minimizing phase distortion that can harm the transient response of phase-aligned loudspeakers of a loudspeaker system.
