A credential reader update system includes a server operable to provide a credential reader update via a cellular telephone interface, and a plurality of credential readers. Each credential reader communicates with a presented credential at a credential reader frequency, wherein each credential reader has a credential reader interface having a range. A portable update device is movable into and out of the range, and is operable to receive the credential reader update via the cellular telephone interface. A credential reader update application is included in the portable update device, and is operable to uniquely identify the particular credential reader to be updated. The portable update device transfers the credential reader update to the credential reader via the credential reader interface, and the credential reader update includes firmware instructions that cause the credential reader to perform communications with the presented credential at a second frequency different than the credential reader frequency.

Systems and methods for programming a credential reader

Various embodiments of the present invention provide systems and methods for performing updates of credentials used in relation to RFID readers. As an example, some embodiments of the present invention provide methods for updating credentials capable of authorization to an RFID reader. Such methods include providing a cellular telephone that includes a memory, a cellular telephone interface, and an nfc interface. An access is received via the cellular telephone interface, and is stored to the memory. Communication with an RFID reader is initiated via the nfc interface, and the access update is provided to the RFID reader for authorization

Systems and methods for utilizing wireless programmable credentials

Various embodiments of the present invention provide systems and methods for performing updates of credentials used in relation to RFID readers. As an example, some embodiments of the present invention provide methods for updating credentials capable of authorization to an RFID reader. Such methods include providing a cellular telephone that includes a memory, a cellular telephone interface, and an nfc interface. An access is received via the cellular telephone interface, and is stored to the memory. Communication with an RFID reader is initiated via the nfc interface, and the access update is provided to the RFID reader for authorization.

A remote access system includes an RFID reader and a credential having a cellular phone interface and an nfc interface. The credential is operable to receive authorization information and to communicate with the RFID reader. A server is operable to receive an authorization request for the credential and to access the credential to provide the authorization information. An RFID reader authorization application is included in the credential. The credential is operable to transfer the RFID authorization code to the RFID reader via the nfc interface over an nfc communication channel.

Systems and methods for programming an RFID reader

Various embodiments of the present invention provide systems and methods for performing RFID reader updates. As an example, systems are described that include a server, an RFID reader, and a portable update device. The server is operable to provide an RFID reader update via a communication network. The RFID reader has an nfc interface. The portable update device is operable to receive the RFID reader update via the communication network, and to transfer the RFID reader update to the RFID reader via the nfc interface.

Systems and methods for emulating credentials are disclosed. In some cases, the systems include an access credential reader and an access credential writer. The access credential reader is communicably coupled to the access credential writer. The access credential reader is operable to receive information from an access credential, and to transfer at least a portion of the information to the access credential writer. The access credential writer is operable to transfer at least the portion of the information to an emulation access credential.

Systems and methods for dual reader emulation

Systems and methods for emulating credentials. In some cases, the systems include an access control module with an access credential reader that is operable to receive an access information from one access credential, and an access credential writer that is operable to provide at least a portion of the access information to another access credential. The written access credential is operable to receive the portion of the access information from the access credential writer. Upon receiving the information, the written access credential becomes operable to access an access point. Some systems and methods are related to access control, while other systems and methods are related to payment, access, and/or other transaction devices used in relation to credentials.
